The relationship between WWE and Saudi Arabia has proven to be extraordinarily beneficial for both parties. The company earns around 100 million dollars a year by holding two annual events in the Asian country. A situation that many fans have criticized for considering that WWE is helping a totalitarian regime to whitewash its international image.
A topic that keeps coming up every time WWE travels to the Asian country or announces a new show in those lands. This afternoon, one of the staunchest defenders of the company, Seth Rollins, was asked about the fans' rejection of WWE's relationship with Saudi Arabia during an interview with Jay Mohr on Mohr Stories.
We've been there for six years. We've been criticized for six years
Other criticisms have gone further - like CM Punk before his return to the company - claiming that WWE receives "blood money." A question that Mohr sarcastically posed to "The Visionary," but received a rather unexpected response from the former world champion.
"Guess what? In the United States, they pay us too. Do you think there's no blood money there? Come on, don't talk nonsense. We've been there for six years. When we went in 2019, I was skeptical too. 'I don't know what to think about this.' We go there and the change in culture and people at our shows in these six years has been incredible. Just to give you an idea, the first time we went there were no women in our show. There were no women backstage. Now we go there and it's like any other WWE show. There are many women," Rollins replied.
Saudi Arabia will host Royal Rumble 2026, making this edition the first in history to be held outside of North America. But the big bombshell will come a year later, with the celebration of WrestleMania 43 in the Asian country. A decision that caused great discomfort among fans, but will move forward despite everything.
