AEW closed Worlds End 2025 with an explosive ending. In a four-way match full of tension, Samoa Joe defended the World Championship against MJF, Swerve Strickland, and Hangman Page. The last time they met on such a stage, Joe had ended MJF's first reign at Worlds End 2023. This time, the story was rewritten.

MJF pinned Joe to become world champion for the second time, reclaiming a throne that many considered unattainable after his tumultuous 2025. With the audience divided between surprise and celebration, the new champion wasted no time in confirming his plans.

Minutes after his victory, AEW announced that MJF will appear on Dynamite: New Year's Smash on December 31, marking his first televised appearance of this new era. It remains to be seen whether the champion arrives ready to speak, provoke, or congratulate the new year, although the latter is highly unlikely.

Furthermore, the New Year's Eve special will also feature several title defenses: Mercedes Moné will defend the TBS Championship against Willow Nightingale, while Ricochet will defend the AEW National Championship against Jack Perry. Below you can read the updated card for the show.
