Since CM Punk made his surprising return to WWE, fans have been speculating about the possible rivalries he could have in this new stage of his professional career. So far, "The Best in the World" has had intense rivalries with talents like Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins, and even had the opportunity to face John Cena during the retirement tour of the seventeen-time world champion.

However, there is one man that CM Punk has never fought. A legend he has never been able to face, and if he did, it would be one of his most desired "dream matches." We are talking about "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, one of the greatest legends in the business, who was asked about the topic in a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet.

"It was hinted at one point. We were promoting a video game, and I think I had just gone through ACL and PCL surgery. Maybe it was hinted at, but it just never happened, like my thing with Hogan never happened. Many things never happened. There were many good things that did happen. Not everything can happen," Stone Cold said about it.

Austin came out of retirement at WrestleMania 38 to have one last match. The WWE legend defeated Kevin Owens in the main event of the first night of the grand event, leaving fans, his opponent, and himself satisfied. However, Austin himself confessed that there were plans for a new match at WrestleMania 39, but none of them came to fruition.

Punk and Austin had a segment on the June 13, 2011 episode of Monday Night Raw, and later were part of the promotion for the WWE '13 video game (which had the Chicago wrestler as the cover star) in a segment with Jim Ross. Since then, they have not been seen together on a wrestling program. With their "dream match" almost ruled out, there is always the possibility that they could have some kind of segment together to reward the fans.
