The controversy between Jim Ross and D-Von Dudley, focused on accusations of racism during their time in WWE, has gained a new prominent voice. Booker T addressed the issue on his Hall of Fame podcast, providing context and a broader perspective on a conflict that has resurfaced over two decades later.
D-Von Dudley accused Jim Ross of expressing rejection towards him for being black and subsequently ignoring him in internal situations, such as in the catering area. According to D-Von, one of these episodes occurred when Ross appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Despite everything, D-Von has stated that he has forgiven Ross on a personal level, although he never received a direct apology.
Jim Ross, on the other hand, strongly denied the accusations, stating that he does not remember any of the described events and rejecting any racist behavior. Nevertheless, both parties have left the door open to definitively settle the matter.
During his intervention, Booker T reflected on the fact that these accusations come to light many years later and acknowledged that he himself could have reacted differently in a similar situation.
It's not to get JR in trouble or anything like that, but back then JR used to drink a little. Maybe he forgot he said it. Maybe he said it as a joke.
The former world champion also pointed out that the case is based on a version affirmed by D-Von and denied by Ross, something that complicates reaching an absolute truth. Booker T explained that he himself has experienced delicate racial situations with well-known individuals in the industry, but that those same people are very different today.
In that sense, he suggested that there are episodes that perhaps should stay in the past, while others cannot be buried without further consideration. For Booker, both realities can coexist.
Booker T made it clear that his wrestling career was not devoid of moments where he had to stand up and defend himself, even willing to lose his job if necessary. However, he stated that he never experienced direct racism situations with Jim Ross.
He also recalled that Ross was a key figure in his arrival to WWE and in the way he was able to tell his personal story, including his time in prison, something he considers relevant when analyzing the complete context.
