Today we will once again enjoy a new live coverage of WWE SmackDown, which this time will be broadcast live from the Riyadh Season Stadium at KAFD in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This will be the last weekly show of the blue brand before the Royal Rumble, and it will feature some of the key players of that event.
Of note is a confrontation between Sami Zayn and Drew McIntyre before their title match at the PLE and a new open challenge for the United States Championship. As always, we invite you to comment on the article to give your opinion on what happens on this week's SmackDown blue brand show.
WWE SmackDown starts on Netflix!
We see the arrival of some of the key players of the night: Gunther, AJ Styles, Drew McIntyre, and Sami Zayn.
We see a video recap of the last edition of WWE Saturday Night's Main Event.
Cody Rhodes is the one to open the show tonight. "The American Nightmare" is welcomed with a great ovation. Rhodes heads to the ring while greeting the fans in the front rows. "Cody, Cody Rhodes," the fans chant once his theme music stops playing. "Well, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, what do you want to talk about?" asks the former Undisputed WWE Champion. Cody thought he would come to Arabia after beating Jacob Fatu to a pulp, but that ended abruptly when Drew McIntyre decided to intervene. Now Rhodes wonders where the Scotsman is, because this is the perfect moment for him to show up and take over the show. However, it seems that McIntyre has relaxed now that he is already the champion.
Cody points out that it makes perfect sense for him to win the Royal Rumble for the third time, because that way he could challenge McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship. However, perhaps by then "The Scottish Psychopath" will no longer be the champion, as he will put the title on the line tomorrow against his good friend Sami Zayn. The fans cheer for the Canadian's name. On the other hand, a victory in the Royal Rumble would also allow him to challenge CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship. A match that, according to Rhodes, will have to happen sooner or later. What he is sure of is that he will participate in the battle royal with a clear advantage: being the only one who has won it not once, but twice.
Randy Orton makes his entrance!
The fans sing the chorus of "Voices" as "The Viper" heads to the ring. "THEY TALK TO ME!" they shout in unison. Randy takes his time to enter the ring. Once there, Cody hands him a microphone. "RKO, RKO!" the fans chant before lighting up the stands with their smartphones. Orton thanks them for this reception. "Saudi Arabia, how I love you!" he exclaims.
Randy puts his hand on Cody's shoulder to remind him that they are more than friends, they are brothers. No one was prouder than him when Rhodes won the Undisputed WWE Championship, and no one understood better the rage he felt when he lost it. However, tomorrow there will be no friends in the battle royal. Orton knows that a desperate Rhodes is dangerous, but a "viper" looking for his fifteenth world championship is much more dangerous. "Tomorrow we won't be friends, we won't be brothers. I'll have zero respect for you and for any man who steps into that ring, and if the opportunity arises, I'll throw you over the top rope without hesitation!", he exclaims. Orton puts his hand back on Cody's shoulder. "And now remember this, Cody: you're not the only one who has won the Royal Rumble twice," he says.
UUUUUSSSSSSOOOO!
Jey Uso runs to the ring to yeet with the fans. The theme music comes to an end and the fans ask for an encore. After that, Jey greets Randy and Cody, making it clear that he respects them. And since they have come out to make a statement, he also wants to make his own. Uso points out that his goal is to win the Royal Rumble two years in a row to earn a title shot at WrestleMania and thus regain a world championship at the grand event. "Four letters, one word! YEET!" he exclaims.
Sami Zayn makes his entrance!
The fans welcome Sami with chants of "Olé, olé, olé!" as they light up the stands with their smartphones. Zayn greets them in Arabic before addressing the three men in the ring. Sami wants to share with them his plans for the Royal Rumble, where he will not only have a match, but the conclusion of three stories: the conquest of his first world championship, his first victory over Drew McIntyre (ending the 11-0 streak in favor of the Scotsman) and the continuation of his favorable streak in Arabia, where he has never lost (because he does not plan to do so tomorrow). That said, Sami wants them to know that, if anyone wins the battle royal and wants to compete for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania, they will have to challenge him.
The Vision in full burst onto the scene!
Paul Heyman mocks the four men in the ring, stating that he sees no vision in them. Sami will not beat Drew, and Randy, Cody, and Jey will not win the battle royal. "Shut the f*** up!" chant the fans. Heyman promises that tomorrow will be Bron Breakker's night. Now it's Randy who tells Paul to shut up before challenging The Vision as a whole to face them in a tag team match right now. Nick Aldis appears on the scene to restore order. The General Manager regrets that Heyman and his men tend to disrupt everything every time they come to SmackDown. However, the situation they have caused inevitably leads to a confrontation. That's why he announces that tonight The Vision will face Rhodes, Orton, Uso, and Zayn in a tag team match. All parties involved seem satisfied with Nick's decision. The heels return backstage as the segment comes to an end.
Carmelo Hayes makes his entrance to issue a new open challenge for the United States Championship.
Rey Fenix responds to the challenge!
United States Championship Match
Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Rey Fenix
Fenix takes the lead with his quick movements. Rey executes a Tightrope Penalty Kick on Melo, who falls to ringside. Fenix jumps on him with a Cancun Tornado. The Mexican brings the champion back inside the ring to continue punishing him. Rey hits Hayes in one of the corners before executing a dropkick at ground level.

Rey blocks a facebreaker before starting a roll-up exchange with the champion. Fenix kicks Hayes in one of the corners before setting him up for a Mexican Muscle Buster. Melo frees himself to start a kick exchange with his opponent. A simultaneous big boot ends with both men lying on the mat.
The action resumes, but soon both men knock each other down again, this time with a double clothesline. Carmelo and Rey stand up to start a new exchange of attacks. Melo knocks down his opponent to finish him off with an elbowdrop. 1..2..NO. The action moves to the top of one of the corners. Rey hits the champion's back before applying a double footstomp. Carmelo falls to the mat, where he receives the impact of a moonsault. 1..2..NO.

Fenix dodges a Nothing But Net to counter with a DDT. 1..2..NO. Now it's Melo who stops Rey with a facebreaker. Carmelo climbs the corner to finish off the masked man -now- with the Nothing But Net. 1..2..3.
Winner and STILL United States Champion: Carmelo Hayes
The Miz approaches Ilja Dragunov backstage. "Give me a good reason why I shouldn't...", says the Russian before The Miz interrupts him. He wants to make it clear that last week he pushed him off the corner because Carmelo Hayes, in his desperation to retain the United States Championship, asked him to. "I have no problems with you. I don't even know you," says The Miz. Ilja shakes his hand to introduce himself formally. The Russian firmly shakes Mizanin's hand. "This is how it could have been. We could have had a little chat, gotten to know each other. But no, you had to cost me the match. And I don't care or know if you work with Carmelo or not. All I know is that tonight, your pain will entertain me", says Dragunov as he lets go of The Miz's hand. The Russian leaves to end the segment.
R-Truth talks with Nick Aldis next to the drum that will determine the entry order in the men's Royal Rumble match. Damian Priest appears on the scene to thank the General Manager for responding to his call after Saturday Night's Main Event. Aldis, on the other hand, has good news for him, as he has secured him a spot in the battle royal. R-Truth is happy with the news. So much so that he starts spinning the drum so that the Puerto Rican can draw a ball. Damian opens it to know his position. Aldis and R-Truth's reaction says it all. "I'm sorry. You can try again," says R-Truth. Nick points out that goes against the rules. "It doesn't matter. It's just a number. It just gives me more time to finish off more idiots. Anyway, I'm going to win. Thank you, Nick", says Damian before leaving.
Cathy Kelley interviews Drew McIntyre in the parking lot of the venue. The Scotsman addresses the participants in the men's battle royal, especially those who were part of the first segment of the night. Drew points out that Jey Uso talks a lot, but has never won the WWE Championship. As for Sami Zayn, he remains the same as always: an idiot who decides to fight some of WWE's most dangerous superstars just one day before the most important match of his life. "I'll be watching. But there's something I want you to think about. Listen carefully, because this is a threat: I'll do whatever it takes to keep my title. Are you willing to do whatever it takes to take it from me?", Drew asks to end the interview.
Cathy Kelley interviews Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY backstage. Both recall that they have faced each other numerous times, so fighting each other in the women's battle royal won't affect their friendship. Giulia and Kiana James interrupt the segment. Giulia and SKY argue in Japanese. Kiana agrees that the battle royal won't break RHIYO's friendship because none of them will win. James promises that they will snatch the Tag Team Championships after Giulia wins the Royal Rumble. And with that, she will take one step closer to becoming a triple champion at WrestleMania. Lash Legend and Nia Jax appear on the scene, causing Kelley to flee. Jax points out that her mere participation leaves no opportunities for the rest. Legend, on the other hand, assures that the winner will be one of them. Tension between the three teams is rising, leading several officials to intervene.
Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss make their entrance. "Riyadh, Wooo!" exclaims Charlotte before reminding everyone that we are just one day away from the Royal Rumble. That said, Flair promises that she will be the winner of the women's battle royal. And she can't think of anyone better than her best friend Alexa to have her back. Bliss finds it funny, as she has the same plan. "I knew you'd support me," says "The Queen." Alexa explains that her plan is to win the battle royal. Bliss recalls that she fought in the first women's match in WWE in the Middle East and now wants to make history again by winning the first Royal Rumble in Riyadh. Charlotte admits that Bliss is a great talent, but tomorrow all women will compete for themselves, so if she thinks she will help her win... "Charlotte, I don't need your help to win. And you don't need my help either. And now I'm going to hold your hand when I tell my best friend, Charlotte: not everything revolves around you", says Alexa in a friendly tone. Flair asks if this means that, as soon as she turns her back, Alexa will throw her -along with their friendship- over the top rope. "Would you throw me?" asks Bliss.
¡The Judgment Day (Liv Morgan, Roxanne Perez, and Raquel Rodriguez) interrupt the segment!
"Oh, how cute. The two best friends are fighting," says Morgan. She points out that they can't identify with that because unlike Alexa and Charlotte, who are thinking about how to stab each other in the back, one of the three of them will win the battle royal. "I hate to tell you, Liv, but having two others helping you is not really a plan," says Alexa. "And if you think we're not friends, why don't you come here and find out?" asks Flair. Morgan, Perez, and Rodriguez accept the challenge. However, halfway there they stop. "We have better things to do, losers! See you at the Rumble tomorrow! Goodbye!", exclaims Liv. Nick Aldis appears on the scene, preventing the heels from returning backstage. The General Manager knows that The Judgment Day are not part of this brand, but as far as he's concerned, anyone who sets foot on the entrance ramp must be willing to continue their way to the ring. That's why he schedules a tag team match here and now. An official appears on the scene for this occasion.

The Judgment Day (Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez) (with Raquel Rodriguez) vs. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss
Roxanne dodges Charlotte's attacks to seek refuge in the ropes. Perez slaps Flair before escaping the ring. Furious, Charlotte runs after her without realizing that Morgan has received the relay. Liv and Roxanne end up at ringside, where they receive a rope dropkick from Bliss.
Roxanne throws Alexa into the ropes to strike her with a direct european uppercut to the back. Morgan receives the tag to continue the attack on Bliss. Liv executes The Three Amigos on Alexa. After that, she strikes Charlotte, provoking her so that the referee has to intervene. This way, Raquel and Roxanne can illegally and unpunishedly attack Bliss.

Bliss takes advantage to catch her and apply a Sister Abigail. 1..2..3.
Winners: Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair
Cathy Kelley interviews Jordynne Grace backstage. "The Juggernaut" is aware that the Royal Rumble can change your career, but she always believes in herself. "When I win the Royal Rumble, at WrestleMania I’m going to give Jade (Cargill) the reality check that..." says Jordynne before being attacked by the WWE Women’s Champion. "You’re not going to win the Royal Rumble! And you’re certainly not going to beat me, because I am that..." exclaims "The Storm" before Grace responds to her attack. Both women begin to brawl. Several officials appear on the scene to separate them.
Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae head toward the ring. Nick Aldis is waiting for them near the Gorilla Position. The General Manager informs them that LeRae will not be allowed at ringside. Gargano and LeRae oppose Aldis’ decision. Johnny reminds him that the mask they possess is a very precious gift from his wife, which tonight’s opponent used as a weapon against her last week. Nick is glad he brought that up, because if Axiom defeats him tonight, he will get that mask back. Gargano continues arguing with the General Manager when his entrance music begins to play. Furious, he grabs the mask and heads to the ring, where his opponent awaits.
Axiom (with Nathan Frazer) vs. Johnny Gargano
Johnny kisses the mask, placing it under one of the corners. Axiom and Gargano begin a feeling-out phase with holds, blocks, and counters. The Spaniard surprises his opponent with a pair of scissors. The Spaniard prepares to hit his finisher when he notices the presence of his original mask.
Axiom grabs it and charges at his rival, but Gargano stops him with a superkick. Gargano grapples with his opponent, ripping off the mask he is wearing. The Spaniard covers his face with his hands. Meanwhile, Johnny celebrates his misdeed in front of Frazer, unaware that Axiom has put on his original mask. Johnny turns around, only to be caught with a Golden Ratio. 1..2..3.
Winner: Axiom
Carmelo Hayes approaches Ilja Dragunov to make it clear that he had nothing to do with The Miz’s attack. Ilja admits he doesn’t know what to think, since literally one second after Mizanin shoved him, Hayes was right there to take advantage. Carmelo insists that he’s not aligned with The Miz and that he considers Dragunov a friend. "Listen, tonight I’m going out there to face The Miz. And when I’m done with him, I’m coming for you. And I’ll get the same opportunity I gave you. And let’s make one thing clear: I’m not asking for it. I’m waiting for it", says the Russian before walking away.
Cathy Kelley interviews Trick Williams backstage. Williams boasts about his presence and physical appearance, pointing out that he’s doing nothing but rising rapidly in WWE, and that’s something cities all around the world are starting to understand. Everybody wants to ride this wave. With that said, he promises that tomorrow he will win the battle royal to earn his direct ticket to the WrestleMania main event. "Let’s talk about that," he says before walking off.
AJ Styles makes his entrance. "The Phenomenal One" heads to the ring. "¡AJ Styles! ¡AJ Styles!" chant the fans. "¡Riyadh, welcome to SmackDown, the house that AJ Styles built!" exclaims AJ Styles. He knows that some fans are worried about his match tomorrow, but they shouldn’t be, because tomorrow he will finish off Gunther to begin his farewell tour. He wants to face many opponents before hanging up his boots—opponents like Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, CM Punk...
¡Gunther interrupts the promo!
The fans boo the Austrian as he climbs onto the commentary table. Gunther points out that AJ Styles is fantasizing about something that will not happen. And all because he made a grave mistake by accepting his proposal to put his career on the line. Gunther promises that he will end it the same way he ended John Cena’s career: by forcing him to submit. "You know what, you’re very funny, professor..." says AJ Styles, mocking the Austrian’s attire. "...because the last time I checked, you were the one who tapped out... like a little bitch". Furious, "The Ring General" removes his jacket and steps onto the apron, teasing entering the ring. After a few seconds glaring daggers at his opponent for tomorrow, Gunther opts to leave. "The Phenomenal One" celebrates with the fans as the segment comes to an end.
Tama Tonga approaches Shinsuke Nakamura backstage. "I saw your match last week. Did you see mine?" asks Tama. "What happened to you? You used to be The Man, The King of Strong Style. Shinsuke, I would have beaten AJ Styles last week. Maybe it’s time you followed in his footsteps and retired. 'The Shinsuke Sayonara Tour', what do you think?" asks Tama. "I see you’re very confident right now. But to me, you’re still a young rebel. Bad Boy Tama Tonga. Anyway, I need to give you a gift," says Nakamura before speaking to him in Japanese. "I’ll show you Strong Style. I’ll see you in the ring next week", says Shinsuke before walking away.
Ilja Dragunov vs. The Miz
Dragunov and The Miz begin with an exchange of holds. The Miz backs Ilja into one of the corners, where he delivers a chop. The Russian reacts with emotion. "Yes! Come on! Winner: Ilja Dragunov
Solo Sikoa cuts a promo at his table. Behind him stand the rest of the MFT members. "Bo (Dallas), I told you. I told everyone exactly what I was going to do. And I did it. I called your bluff, and as you can see, I took your tag team titles. I took everything you wanted. I promised gold to my men, and like I said before, I’m a man of my word. But these tag team championships aren’t for me," says Sikoa before handing his belt to his men. The title ends up on one of Talla Tonga’s shoulders. Tama Tonga also hands over his. "These Tag Team Championships are for my family. But there’s still work to be done, because tomorrow I’m going to win the Royal Rumble and bring the Undisputed WWE Championship back to this family, where everything belongs."
Bo Dallas responds to Sikoa through a video that interrupts the broadcast: "Solo, do you think you’ve won? You’re wrong. Do you think you left us stranded? You’re mistaken, and you’re gravely underestimating the weight of sacrifice. Our bluff and our tag team championships will return to us. And when they do, millions of fireflies around the world will illuminate your insecurities. Not only will we take back what belongs to us, but we’ll also make sure your greed leads to your downfall."
Jey Uso makes his entrance. Randy Orton is the next to appear. Sami Zayn enters third, at which point The Vision launch an assault. Cody Rhodes is forced to rush in to help his teammates.
