CM Punk's departure from WWE in 2014 caused some of his friends to turn their backs on him. This was the case with Seth Rollins, who staunchly defended the company from the attacks that "The Best in the World" launched during the decade following his departure. The animosity Rollins felt towards CM Punk was such that he went as far as describing him as a "cancer" to wrestling.

Naturally, the return of the former WWE champion did not sit well with "The Visionary". However, both men have worked together, with the company using this personal animosity to fuel one of the most interesting storylines in recent years. Despite everything, time has still not healed the wounds, as Rollins himself explained in a recent appearance on Club Shay Shay when asked about his relationship with CM Punk.

"No. I wouldn't say that. Obviously, there is some sort of working relationship; otherwise, we couldn't go out there and have matches, but it's very complex. Perhaps, when both of us are away from the business or retired, there could be an opportunity for reconciliation. It's very difficult for me to separate the CM Punk that exists now from the CM Punk who was a really terrible friend to me ten years ago. Those wounds need time to heal. I don't know if he cares to make the effort to achieve it, nor do I know if I care for him to make the effort. Neither of us has time for that at this moment," Rollins said.

Currently, Rollins remains off the company's television programming while recovering from a shoulder injury. The company, and the wrestler himself, hold out hope for medical clearance before WrestleMania 42, which is why plans related to "The Visionary" are still not finalized. Meanwhile, CM Punk will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns, provided he retains the gold against Finn Bálor at Elimination Chamber.
