Ronda Rousey starred in one of the most talked-about moments of AEW Revolution. The former WWE superstar appeared right after her friend Marina Shafir was defeated by Toni Storm to confront the latter, which many interpreted as the seed for a future match between the two women in an All Elite Wrestling ring.
As expected, that appearance generated a lot of buzz in the wrestling world, especially considering the comments the fighter has made about the business after leaving WWE disillusioned. This afternoon, the specialized outlet Fightful published a report providing new details about Rousey’s current status with AEW.
"Ronda Rousey made her return to professional wrestling at AEW Revolution, with a surprise appearance to help Marina Shafir. In the days that followed, Fightful Select asked several AEW sources about her status with the company. Everyone we spoke to believes she is not under contract with AEW. When asked about the appearance, it was noted that Rousey lives nearby and has a good relationship with AEW owner Tony Khan. The numbers generated by her match in ROH were also mentioned," the outlet wrote.
"Sources within AEW said that Rousey achieved the desired reaction from the company by playing a heel role, but that she seemed to expect a different reaction. Although there were reports in other outlets that WWE was surprised to see her there, the sources we spoke to in TKO and WWE did not seem surprised and stated that they expect her to do everything possible to go against WWE, UFC, and TKO at this time. They do not believe she wants to return to WWE in the future," Fightful wrote.
For now, All Elite Wrestling does not appear to have creative plans for Rousey, who continues preparing for her return to MMA, where she will face Gina Carano. Likewise, any plans revolving around a match with Toni Storm would have been canceled after the New Zealander was sidelined with an injury—one that could keep her out of action for the remainder of the year.
