At the beginning of the week, it was reported that Mexican star Alberto El Patrón had been arrested for domestic violence. According to local media, the wrestler allegedly verbally and physically assaulted his current partner, who called emergency services after the supposed aggression.
This is not the first time Alberto El Patrón has been accused of domestic violence. And, once again, his controversial personal life ends up affecting his professional career. The Crash has just suspended the wrestler, who will miss his upcoming appearances with the company until further notice.
"Through this statement, The Crash Lucha Libre is a company with values that promotes sports entertainment in a family-friendly manner, and condemns any act of non-sport-related violence. For this reason, we are suspending Alberto Del Río 'El Patrón' from our programming following the recent events," wrote The Crash Management in a statement.
Alberto's arrest and suspension come at the worst possible time for the wrestler, who had regained the connection with Mexican fans. This led AAA Lucha Libre fans to criticize El Hijo del Vikingo and demand El Patrón's return. Something that WWE, the new owner of the promotion, categorically refused.
This week's arrest is not the first for Alberto El Patrón. In May 2020, the Mexican was arrested for allegedly assaulting and sexually abusing his girlfriend. Alberto was charged with one count of sexual abuse and one count of assault causing bodily harm. The wrestler was indicted by a grand jury and formally charged with aggravated kidnapping and sexual abuse.
His tumultuous relationship with Saraya (Paige in WWE) is also well known, with whom he was involved in several public scandals. They decided to end the relationship in 2017 in an unfriendly manner. Both Alberto and Saraya heavily criticized each other for years, accusing each other of being the aggressor in that relationship.
