Today we will once again enjoy a new live coverage of WWE SmackDown, which this time will be broadcast live from the Sap Center in San Jose, California. The show will feature the confirmed appearances of Randy Orton, Pat McAfee, and Cody Rhodes, as well as the debut of Royce Keys on the blue brand.
On the other hand, Drew McIntyre will "expose" Jacob Fatu to the world, while Sami Zayn will try to get his revenge on Trick Williams after what happened last week. As always, we invite you to comment on the article to give your opinion on what happens on this week's SmackDown show.
WWE SmackDown begins at SmackDown!
The show starts with a recap of last week's events.
Cody Rhodes arrives at the parking lot of the venue, where Nick Aldis is waiting for him. "The American Nightmare" asks where Pat McAfee is. The General Manager informs him that he is not in the building, but he will be, as he is on his way. However, he knows very well what Cody is planning. That's why he must inform him that he has strict orders not to allow him to lay a hand on McAfee. "They come from high up. You know what that means," Aldis points out. Jelly Roll approaches them. The singer quickly asks where Randy Orton and McAfee are. Aldis is aware that Roll has unfinished business with "The Viper," but he asks him not to get involved, as there is too much at stake. With that said, the General Manager leaves the scene. Jelly tells Cody that all this has nothing to do with McAfee, with Aldis, or with Roll himself, but with twenty years of friendship, a betrayal, and WrestleMania. "Don't let anyone distract you, because this time you're fighting for something bigger than yourself. This is not just your story, Cody. Think about it, champion," says Roll before leaving.
THIS IS MY BRUTALITY!
Rhea Ripley is the one to open the show. Furious, "Mami" heads to the ring, where she quickly asks for a microphone. Rhea congratulates Jade Cargill for using her brain for once and finding her greatest weakness. "This is no longer about physicality. It's not about titles. Because you've made it personal. You've done it. You attacked IYO, so I need you to come out here so I can kick your ass!," she exclaims. However, it is "The Genius of the Sky" who appears on the scene.
"IYO, IYO!" chant the fans. The Japanese wrestler takes a microphone to address her friend. "I know you're angry, Rhea. I am too! Jade attacked me. That's why I want to kill her. You'll have Jade at WrestleMania, but I want to face her TONIGHT," SKY exclaims. Ripley reminds her that she is not at 100%, so she doesn't have to do this. "Are you sure this is what you want? I can take care of this," says Rhea. "IYO, IYO!" chant the fans. "I'm sure. I'll talk to Nick if necessary. I WANT JADE TONIGHT," she insists. The General Manager of SmackDown appears on the entrance ramp to save the effort for the Japanese wrestler. And it's because, although he had other plans for tonight, he won't let this good idea slip away. With that said, he announces that IYO SKY will face Jade Cargill in the main event of the night. IYO and Rhea continue their conversation in the ring as the segment comes to an end.
We see the arrival at the venue of some of the protagonists of tonight: Lyra Valkyria, Bayley, Alexa Bliss, and Charlotte Flair.
Bayley (with Lyra Valkyria) vs. Alexa Bliss (with Charlotte Flair)
Bayley and Alexa observe each other before starting the fight. Bayley knocks down her opponent with several shoulder tackles to take the lead. Alexa throws Bayley against the ropes before standing on her back. After that, she hits her head repeatedly on the canvas. "The Role Model" recovers to expel Bliss from the ring. She then hits her with a rope dropkick.
Bayley brings Alexa back into the ring, where she applies a suplex. Bayley covers her. 1..2..NO. Bliss escapes to ringside. Bayley goes after her, ready to hit her in the barrier area, but Alexa prevents it with a punch. The action returns to the inside of the ring, where Bayley regains control. Bayley hits her opponent's back before throwing her against one of the corners.
Bliss blocks a spinning neckbreaker in the rope area, only to fall back into Bayley's clutches. She traps her opponent in a crossface. Bliss frees herself to knock down Bayley, whom she finishes off with a rolling senton. Bliss starts a counterattack that ends with an inverted Natural Selection. 1..2..NO. Bayley dodges a new rolling senton to respond with a sunset flip powerbomb against one of the corners. 1..2..NO.
Bayley seeks height. However, Alexa surprises her to leave her hanging by her legs. Bliss hits her with a dropkick. Now it's Bliss who seeks height on that same corner. Alexa jumps on Bayley to perform a tornado DDT, although not very well executed. 1..2..NO. Bayley blocks a Sister Abigail to execute a Bayley-to-belly. Both women start an exchange of attacks and roll-ups.
Bayley throws Alexa against one of the corners before executing a diving elbowdrop. One..Two..Thre..NO. Bayley can't believe it. The action moves to ringside. Bayley goes after Alexa, who was being attended to by Charlotte. Bayley pushes her aside to hit Bliss several times with chops. Flair gets angry. Bayley brings Alexa back into the ring before imitating Ric Flair. Charlotte takes off her jacket, ready to fight with Bayley. She climbs onto the apron without losing sight of "The Queen," a moment that Alexa takes advantage of to surprise her with a roll-up. 1..2..3.
Winner: Alexa Bliss
Matt Cardona tries to cheer up Carmelo Hayes in the infirmary. Matt knows what he's going through, as he also had to wait for his "WrestleMania Moment." However, he promises him that the wait is worth it. Trick Williams and Lil Yachty appear on the scene. The rapper mocks Hayes by imitating a limp. Williams addresses Carmelo, ensuring that he really thought he would win last week. Hayes doesn't want to hear what he has to say because he was the reason he lost the United States Championship. Now he just wants to recover. Yachty has good news for Melo, as he will be able to see how Trick becomes the new champion at the grand event. Carmelo hopes that Williams really wins the belt because he will be waiting to take it away from him. Yachty points out to Hayes where the catering is. Furious, Carmelo tries to confront the rapper, but Trick stands between them. "I'll take care of it, brother," he says to Melo. He decides to leave the place. Cardona, for his part, is tired of guests like Yachty who do nothing but talk as if they run this place. Trick confronts Matt, pointing out that he doesn't have time for this. Yachty, however, believes that Williams should take care of him. Cardona thinks it's a good idea, so he goes to find Aldis to schedule the match.
Drew McIntyre carries out a video promo. "You're not a victim, Jacob. You're a failure. You're a failure as a man and as a father," says the Scotsman. He recalls that we are in San Jose, Fatu's hometown. Drew assumes that many of his friends and acquaintances will be delighted to have him here, although they are probably more used to seeing him where the Scotsman is. The camera offers a wider view to show McInytre sitting on a cell bed. "You're not an inspiration. This cell represents who you are and who you will always be. A convict," he says. Drew recalls how the Samoan accused him of taking food off his family's table, but that's not true. His kids needed a plate of food on the table, but what they got was a police photo of their father. Drew promises to leave him half dead at the grand event. After that, Jacob will have to go back home, where he will mess everything up again, which will once again lead him to prison. Because it's his nature. "The system didn't fail you. It failed me. They let you out and you did what you always do: steal. You stole the title from me. You stole the main event of WrestleMania from me. You stole everything from me. Jacob is a burden to everyone, but I will be the one to fix it all. WrestleMania, Jacob. I will be your judge and jury. I will be your damn executioner," he says to end his promo.
Cathy Kelley interviews Jacob Fatu backstage. Fatu promises that tonight Drew will find out that... MFT interrupts the interview. Solo Sikoa points out that Fatu is causing a problem, as every time McIntyre remembers his past as a convict, he makes the family look bad. Jacob doesn't want to argue, but they can solve any problem in the ring. Solo, for his part, recalls that this was the venue where they broke his teeth. "Does anyone know who did it? Does anyone know what happened?" asks Sikoa mockingly. With that said, he specifically mentions Tama Tonga. "What's up, Tama?" asks Fatu. Tama approaches Jacob. "You already know," Tama replies. Solo informs them that he will go to Nick Aldis' office so that the General Manager can make it official. MFT as a whole leaves to end the segment.
We see a promotional video starring Royce Keys, who will make his debut on SmackDown next.
Royce Keys vs. Berto (with Angel)
Berto dodges Royce to hit him from behind playfully. Keys responds with a clothesline before crushing him with a scoop powerslam. Royce unleashes a flurry of punches in one of the corners. Berto escapes to ringside to look for Angel. Royce gets out of the ring to separate the Mexicans. A threatening Keys approaches Angel, who backs off, fearful. Berto takes advantage to push his opponent against one of the posts.
The action returns to the ring. Berto performs a diving dropkick. The Mexican seeks height once again to jump on Royce, but he catches him in mid-air to apply a Fallaway Slam. Keys continues with a Running Powerslam. Keys keeps attacking Berto in one of the corners. Angel tries to intervene, but Royce gets rid of him with a clothesline. Keys finishes off Berto with a spinebuster. 1..2..3.
Winner: Royce Keys
Pat McAfee arrives at the venue. Soon he meets Nick Aldis. McAfee asks him if he has informed Cody Rhodes. "No one in WWE can lay a hand on you under any circumstances," says Aldis. Pat is glad to hear that. McAfee hands him the keys to his car so he can take care of it, although the General Manager doesn't seem willing to do so. Pat enters the building, where he quickly meets Jelly Roll. The singer asks him if he suggested to Randy Orton to hit him with an RKO. Pat assures him he didn't. He just advised Randy to finish everyone. How was he supposed to know the singer would be there? Roll believes McAfee shouldn't have gotten involved in the Cody and Randy story. Pat, however, is convinced that Jelly wouldn't understand it because he's not part of this business. "Someone will give you a reality check," says Roll. "That could be a bad decision, especially with Randy Orton around here," replies a confident McAfee. "What if I do it now? I don't see Randy around here, Pat," says the singer. "I think it would be a very bad idea, Belly Roll," Pat replies. Furious, Roll pushes McAfee against the wall. Nick Aldis intervenes to separate the singer from Pat. Roll pushes the General Manager, reminding him that he can't give him orders because he doesn't work there. Pat points out that Roll is absolutely right. That's why he asks Aldis to kick him out of the venue. Meanwhile, he will continue with his job of saving the business.
We see Tony Hirsch Jr. in the front row.
Cathy Kelley interviews Royce Keys backstage. Kelley asks him how he feels about debuting on SmackDown right in the city where his professional career began. Keys acknowledges that he has been waiting for this for a long time, but he feels great to be able to do it in front of the San Jose audience. Solo Sikoa approaches Royce, interrupting the interview. The Samoan reminds him that they haven't seen each other in a long time. That's why he must inform him that now he is the one in charge. "If you need anything, and I mean ANYTHING, my door will always be open," he says before leaving.
Pat McAfee makes his entrance. The fans greet him with boos. "San Jose... what a shithole!" he exclaims. Pat climbs onto one of the corners to dedicate two middle fingers to the audience. McAfee doesn't understand the fans' reaction, as he considers himself the hero of this story, not lazy people without character like CM Punk, whom they cheer so much. And speaking of "The Best in the World," Pat points out that he can't take his statements seriously because he talked about many people who are more famous and important than him. Also, he couldn't help but notice that CM Punk was wearing an official WWE jacket, and under it, a T-shirt, also official. Merchandise that can be purchased at the company's official store along with almost 300 items with his name. "And I wonder, when that TKO check for the sale of merchandise is issued, which account does it go to? Does it go to the wrestling families who can't afford tickets to WrestleMania? I have a slight suspicion that money goes straight to the 'Sorry Saudi Arabia' bank account," he says.
McAfee continues to taunt the fans who boo him, pointing out that he will continue to be their hero, even if they don't deserve it. Pat announces that, after talking to the TKO executives, he managed to get a 25% discount on tickets for WrestleMania Saturday until the end of the next episode of Monday Night Raw. That way, fans can attend the best moment of the entire event: Randy Orton winning his fifteenth world championship. Pat continues to mock San Jose when suddenly...
Cody Rhodes interrupts the segment!
Rhodes enters the ring to raise the WWE Undisputed Championship in front of McAfee. "Cody, Cody!" chant the fans. "Pat, I don't think you belong in this place," he says. Rhodes knows he can't touch him, but he can give him advice. Cody recommends that he go backstage and experience the "WWE Superstar experience." And once he has done that, he can return to the person who brought him here to say, "Thank you, daddy."
Cody recalls what happened last week—how McAfee wouldn’t stop talking while he tried not to suffocate as Orton tightened a steel chair around his neck. It was then that he understood what the term "Play Wrestler" means. One of the things Pat mentioned was the "Attitude Era," but that took place 30 years ago. Randy Orton debuted in 2002, so he experienced that era as a child. Cody also remembers that Pat talked about the fans. Rhodes makes it clear that he doesn’t see them as customers, but as family. And he knows very well that they want to see Randy Orton win his fifteenth championship. What they don’t want is to see Pat McAfee. "Go home," he says before ending his promo.
Cody prepares to leave, but McAfee stops him by taking the mic. "I am home, asshole. I was born to be in this business!" Pat exclaims. He points out that Rhodes is the fakest man on the face of the earth. "You’re a cosplay champion, and one I’m going to drive out of the WWE Universe along with Randy Orton. Cody, I have a message for you and your inbred family here present: If Randy Orton does not leave WrestleMania as a fifteen-time world champion, you will never see or hear from me in this industry again!" he shouts. "Go home!" the fans chant. Pat flips them off again. Cody picks up the mic to remind him that he’s spent the last three years yeeting at the commentary desk. "Oh, and what did you say? You’re tired? Well, Pat is tired. Do you want to take a nap, Pat? Fine. Let’s bring out Gunther so he can put you to sleep once and for all!" Rhodes exclaims before leaving the ring.
Cody heads backstage. McAfee asks if he’s going to find Triple H to kiss his ass and get a few more opportunities. Pat keeps provoking the champion, who decides he’s had enough. Rhodes takes off his jacket and heads back to the ring. Suddenly, something catches his attention. It’s Randy Orton, who appears on the arena screen. We see Jelly Roll lying on the ground. Orton suggests that Rhodes go find him. Or better yet, he’ll bring him himself. Randy drags the singer onto the entrance ramp. Cody heads toward "The Viper," who retreats backstage. Rhodes checks on Roll. Pat approaches Cody intending to attack him from behind, but the champion notices. Cody advances toward McAfee, who backs away. Now it’s Randy who returns to ambush his former friend from behind.
Orton and McAfee launch a two-on-one assault on Rhodes inside the ring. Roll tries to help the champion, but Randy takes him out. Rhodes manages to recover, but McAfee interferes again. Randy hits a Modified DDT on Cody. McAfee hands Orton the championship. Randy uses it as a weapon against Rhodes. Pat raises Randy’s arm. McAfee takes the belt and places it over his shoulder. Pat kicks Cody and exits the ring, where he insults several fans again. McAfee and Orton head backstage with the championship in their possession.
We return from commercial to see Pat McAfee and Randy Orton congratulating each other for what just happened. McAfee says that now it really feels like WrestleMania season, all thanks to the spotlight being on Randy. "He will save the business at WrestleMania and become a fifteen-time world champion", he says while patting the title. "Cody told me to do something, and I think I will", he says as he gets into his car alongside Orton. Pat rolls down the window to address the camera. "Hey, internet wrestling fans, you’re welcome", McAfee says before driving off.
The Miz and Kit Wilson approach Nick Aldis to demand a solution after what happened last week. Aldis can’t do anything about it, as the referee, Dan Engler, was cursed. The Miz can’t believe the General Manager believes in that as well. Wilson demands that Nick step up, as the official must face consequences. Nick decides to give Kit a chance by putting him in a match against Dan... Wilson and The Miz seem satisfied. "...hausen," Aldis concludes. "Thanks, Miz. Great idea... unless you’re worried about the curse," says Aldis. "THERE IS NO CURSE!" The Miz shouts. "Great. Then we all agree. Good luck, Kit," says the General Manager before leaving.
Jacob Fatu vs. Tama Tonga
Both men stare at each other in silence before starting the fight. Fatu corners Tama in one of the turnbuckles. Tama manages to reverse the situation and unleashes a barrage of attacks on Fatu. He responds with intensity. Jacob knocks Tama down before hitting a handspring moonsault. Tama escapes to ringside, where he is quickly hit with a suicide dive.
Jacob grabs Tama and throws him into the crowd barricade. Tama recovers and shoves Fatu into the steel steps. Tama kicks Jacob’s right leg before locking him in a headlock.

Drew throws Fatu out of the ring. The Scotsman launches Jacob into the steel steps. McIntyre grabs a chair to use as a weapon against his enemy. Drew finishes him with a Future Shock DDT. McIntyre pulls a chain with handcuffs from his pocket. Drew throws Fatu into one of the ring posts before handcuffing him to it. McIntyre kicks him. Jacob falls to ringside.
The Scotsman goes after him to handcuff him to the post again. "How does it feel to be chained up again, which is how you should be? You're nothing but an animal. An animal! What are you going to do? You're not going to do anything! NOTHING!" McIntyre shouts before being struck with a headbutt. Fatu tries to keep attacking him, but he can’t break free from the post. Drew returns to strike him viciously. McIntyre handcuffs Jacob’s hands to his body. After that, he drags him back into the ring to hit him with a second Claymore. Drew throws out all the officials who try to intervene before removing his belt, which he uses like a whip against the Samoan. Once satisfied, the Scotsman leaves, allowing officials to tend to his victim.
R-Truth explains to Danhausen how to use the ESPN app to watch WrestleMania. Danhausen can’t wait for the big event, because once he defeats Kit Wilson and becomes The Miz’s new apprentice, he’ll head to WrestleMania to take over the spectacle—and, by extension, the entire world. Damian Priest appears on the scene, though he’s not sure he wants to know what they’re doing. R-Truth explains that he was teaching Danhausen how to use the ESPN app. "He’s not Asuka anymore," Damian says, reminding him of last week’s confusion. R-Truth not only fails to recognize that, but also claims that it was Priest who confused Danhausen with "The Empress of Tomorrow." The argument ends abruptly when the Puerto Rican notices that Danhausen has suddenly disappeared. Suddenly, a noise catches the Tag Team Champions’ attention. We see B-Fab falling to the ground. Rhea Ripley appears on the scene. "One down. One to go", she says before leaving. "I don’t think she wants Rhea in The Judgment Day," R-Truth says. "I’m the crazy one," Damian says before walking off.
Sami Zayn makes his entrance. The fans boo him. Sami places the United States Championship on the mat before addressing the crowd. The Canadian admits he didn’t expect this reaction from them. Sami recalls that in recent months, wherever he went, everyone talked about change. He reminds the fans that he has given them everything and that they matter to him—at least those who have supported him from day one. As for those who boo him, he wonders what he did to earn their hatred. Though he doesn’t really care, because he knows many still support him, both in the arena and at home. As for the rest, like it or not, they’ll have to watch him compete at WrestleMania, an event he will enter as United States Champion—and leave with the title still around his waist.
Trick Williams and Lil Yachty interrupt the promo!
"Whoop that Trick!" the fans chant. Williams and the rapper enter the ring. Trick believes the fans are tired of listening to Sami, a guy who never stops complaining about everything. Williams claims that the Canadian has envied him since the day he debuted on the main roster, because unlike him, he didn’t need twenty years to get here. And now he can promise that at WrestleMania he will defeat him to win the United States Championship. "Because everybody loves Trick Williams", he says. Sami doesn’t believe the fans love him. That would take much more time. What is true is that they like him—maybe they’re even in love. "You dress like a pimp. How could anyone not like that?" he jokes. However, at WrestleMania he’ll be facing a true main eventer. And when the time comes, everyone will find out if Trick can back up his words. Yachty chimes in to promise Sami that there will be a new United States Champion at WrestleMania. Matt Cardona appears on the scene for his scheduled match with Trick, bringing the segment to an end.
