Countdown to WrestleMania 42 Saturday

Joe Tessitore, Wade Barrett, Corey Graves, and Big E welcome us to the first hour of the Countdown Show.

Wade Barrett interviewed Randy Orton ahead of his WrestleMania match, which will be his first main event in twelve years. Barrett asked whether he is motivated by his legacy, the possibility of winning his fifteenth world title, or if it’s more of a personal motivation. Orton responded that it’s about his legacy, although he also noted that everything in life has some kind of personal motivation, especially when he thinks about his history with Cody Rhodes. However, in this case, he is focused on his legacy because he has realized that nothing lasts forever. His current goal is to surpass Triple H in total world championships to get closer to the records of Ric Flair and John Cena. "My goal is to leave WWE one day with more world gold around my waist than anyone who has ever stepped into a WWE ring," he said. Barrett recalled the change in attitude Randy showed after his last injury return—very different from what has been seen in recent weeks, attacking everyone. Which one is the real Randy Orton? "I think both are the real Randy Orton," he replied. Orton noted that after his return, he felt something was missing... until a little bird on his shoulder told him what it was. In recent years, he hasn’t had what it takes to get the job done. "Now I know what I need to do," he said. Regarding Cody Rhodes, he made it clear that he is completely proud of the journey that took him to the top of WWE. He had the courage to leave the company to grow and return to finish his story. But now it’s Randy’s turn to finish his own story. "I love Cody Rhodes. I’ll love him tomorrow and I’ll still love him when I beat him for the Undisputed WWE Championship," he said. Orton ended the interview by assuring that Cody also hears the voices in his head, and they tell him he won’t be able to beat him. Randy stated that Rhodes will leave WrestleMania without the championship and, hopefully, walking out on his own two feet.

Jackie Redmond interviews AJ Lee backstage. Redmond asks the Intercontinental Champion what it means to her to compete at WrestleMania 42. AJ Lee says she is proud to have broken down doors and shattered glass ceilings to build a career full of firsts, impossible achievements, and climbing mountains. And Becky Lynch is the “ultimate mountain.” "Becky is my Mount Everest," she says. "This is her territory, but eleven years ago I walked in and walked out as champion, and you can be sure I’ll do it again." Redmond thanks her for her time, bringing the interview to a close.

Vic Joseph interviews Sol Ruca. The NXT talent is excited about her first “WrestleMania Experience,” promising that next year she won’t be watching from the outside but will be part of the grand event’s card. Joseph asks about her match against Zaria at NXT Revenge. Sol makes it clear she has nothing against her former friend. The Australian’s envy ended their friendship, but she will be the last woman standing next Tuesday. Ruca ends the interview by stating she feels strong enough to keep proving her worth match after match to see her name on the posters of the next edition of the Show of Shows.

Cathy Kelley interviews Stephanie Vaquer backstage. “La Primera” says she has worked hard her entire life to reach WrestleMania and to hold the WWE Women’s World Championship. Vaquer states that tonight’s match is the most important of her career. For Liv Morgan, it’s about fame and attention. For her, it’s about years of sacrifice, as well as the Latin community that has always supported her. “That’s why tonight I’m going to defeat Liv Morgan,” she says to end the interview.

Shawn Michaels joins Joe Tessitore, Corey Graves, and Big E at the Countdown Show desk.

Byron Saxton interviews Drew McIntyre backstage. The Scotsman makes it clear he hasn’t tried to get into Jacob Fatu’s head with mind games—he’s simply told the truth. "You can’t play mind games with someone who has no brain," he says. The Samoan can repeat his catchphrase as many times as he wants, wear 50 different shirts, and even be told to use a calculator for math. And speaking of math, what does Jacob know about math and education? "When I was in college getting an education, he was in prison," says the Scotsman. He studied criminology and learned a lot about people like Fatu, especially that most of them end up reoffending. And that’s exactly what Jacob has been doing: stealing everything from him. However, if the Samoan wants his “WrestleMania Moment” so badly, he will make sure to give it to him. Drew promises he will use any weapon at his disposal to brutally beat Jacob. And he won’t do it for himself—he’ll do it for the fans, for the Samoan’s wife and children, because that’s the only way to stop him from reoffending. "I may not be the hero everyone wants, but at WrestleMania I’ll be the hero you need," he says before leaving.

Cathy Kelley interviews IShowSpeed backstage. The YouTuber admits he never thought he would end up competing at WrestleMania. IShowSpeed acknowledges that he is very nervous, but at the same time knows he has to give it his all. Regarding his training with Logan Paul and Austin Theory, IShowSpeed described it as motivational, although he still feels sore all over his body. "I just hope everything goes well today," he says. Kelley wishes him luck to conclude the interview.

Kelley then introduces The Miz, who has a special announcement to share. However, Danhausen interrupts the broadcast to greet fans from inside the Goodyear blimp. Danhausen hopes the fans will like him. Otherwise, they will be cursed. Danhausen’s segment ends and we return to The Miz, who continues speaking, unaware of what just happened. The Miz wraps up his segment by noting that fans already know all the details.

Michael Cole interviewed Roman Reigns ahead of his WrestleMania match. Roman points out that everyone says he was born for this, but that’s not entirely true—he REALLY was born for this. Cole asked about his historic record of eleven WrestleMania main events, including the one this coming Sunday. No one comes close to that number—not even Hulk Hogan, who competed in eight. "I don’t want to sound like a ‘record-breaker,’ but it’s my legacy," said Reigns, making it clear his goal is to represent his family. Roman is proud of that record, which also helps him understand that he is representing his family at the highest level. Cole asked about his 2012 debut as part of The Shield and the role CM Punk played at the time. Roman stated that his inclusion in that faction was decided by WWE management, not by "The Best in the World." Reigns also explained that CM Punk was very kind to him during the first few weeks, although that’s common in the business. But he soon dropped the act to reveal what he was really like. And when the time came, he chose to leave the company. The video concluded there, with a continuation set for tomorrow night.

AJ Styles joins Joe Tessitore, Corey Graves, and Big E at the Countdown Show desk.

Joe Tessitore interviewed Cody Rhodes ahead of his WrestleMania match. Tessitore reminded Rhodes that, since his return to WWE in 2022, he has headlined four consecutive WrestleMania events against top-tier opponents. How would he describe his relationship with the Show of Shows? "Golden Boy," Cody replied, using a term Sami Zayn had used backstage. Rhodes noted that his self-confidence has brought him this far. Tessitore reminds him that his opponent will be Randy Orton—his mentor, his friend, and one of the few people who believed in him from day one. Cody is aware that Orton has changed, as he is now willing to do anything to win his fifteenth world championship. In the process, he has reconnected with the voices in his head, and Cody doesn’t believe there’s any turning back. Cody has seen the most dangerous version of Orton, the same one now unleashed. But he doesn’t regret asking for this, because he needs to defeat his opponent at his very best. Cody also stated that the revelation of Pat McAfee as the man behind Randy’s recent heel turn is the most disappointing in the history of this business. However, McAfee has achieved one thing: the entire industry agrees on one point. "Nobody wants Pat McAfee at WrestleMania," he said. As for Randy claiming that Cody is not a “killer,” the champion takes pride in that. Attacking people from behind is not his style, and he has no problem facing those who do operate that way. Tessitore asked whether the recent lack of support from fans is the price to pay for being WWE’s quarterback in recent years. Cody said no—his fans thrive in this environment, and that’s exactly what will happen at WrestleMania.

Joe Tessitore interviewed Triple H, who went in-depth reviewing the Night One card of WrestleMania, as well as the role of the fans and WWE’s need to deliver the level of excitement they expect without neglecting the core fundamentals of the business. Only by maintaining that balance can everyone benefit.

The Las Vegas Mass Choir performs "God Bless America" to close the Countdown Show.

WrestleMania 42 Saturday

WrestleMania 42 Saturday begins on Netflix!

A suited John Cena opens the show. "The Greatest of All Time" greets the fans from the entrance ramp before heading toward the ring, first walking and then breaking into a run. "Cena, Cena!" chant the fans as the seventeen-time world champion grabs a microphone. John thanks them for the reception before reflecting on this year’s Road to WrestleMania, which he describes as chaotic and full of promos—he could even call it “polarizing.” That’s why he understands why he was asked to host the grand event. Cena says the time for talking is over—now it’s time to fight. "Who will step up and give it everything?" he asks. With that, he welcomes the crowd in attendance and the entire world to WrestleMania 42. Fireworks explode throughout the stadium to kick off the first night of the Show of Shows.

UUUUSSSSSSOOOOOO!

The Usos make their entrance through the crowd. Jey and Jimmy soak in the atmosphere as they head toward the ring. Their tag team partner, LA Knight, arrives at the entrance ramp driving a pickup truck. "The Megastar" joins the Samoans in the ring to await their opponents, who make a special entrance beginning with a curtain drop featuring The Vision logo. The three men then head to the ring with multiple cameras capturing every moment.

Tag Team Match
Logan Paul, Austin Theory and IShowSpeed vs. The Usos and LA Knight

The Usos take out Austin and Logan with simultaneous superkicks, leaving IShowSpeed alone with LA Knight. IShowSpeed locks LA Knight in a headlock, but it has no effect on his opponent, who lifts the YouTuber using only the strength of his neck. IShowSpeed then tries to surprise him with his agility, but LA Knight dodges the attack and responds with a clothesline.

Paul distracts LA Knight from the apron. "The Megastar" takes him out with a clothesline, which allows IShowSpeed to catch him off guard with a powerslam. IShowSpeed celebrates his feat without noticing that his opponent is already back on his feet—and furious. Frightened, IShowSpeed quickly tags Logan, but he soon falls into the hands of their opponents.

The Usos knock Logan down before hitting a double elbow drop. Jimmy goes for the cover on "The Maverick." 1..2..NO. Theory tags himself in without Jimmy noticing. Jimmy sends Logan out of the ring, allowing Theory to catch the Samoan off guard with a rolling dropkick. Logan and Austin hit a double suplex on Jimmy before posing for the fans, who respond with loud boos.

IShowSpeed receives the tag from Paul, who also instructs him on what to do next. The YouTuber attempts a suplex on Jimmy, but Jimmy reverses and executes it himself. In pain, IShowSpeed tags Logan. He enters the ring to strike LA Knight and Jey in their corner, sending both to ringside. "The Maverick" unleashes a barrage of attacks on Jimmy. The Samoan manages to stop Logan with an elbow before launching himself with a corkscrew senton. Both men are left laid out on the mat. Jimmy and Paul crawl to their respective corners to tag in Jey and Theory.

Jey unleashes a flurry of offense on Austin, finishing him with a spear. 1..2..NO. Paul breaks the count. Chaos takes over the ring. Jimmy knocks out Theory with a superkick before IShowSpeed surprises the Samoan with a hurricanrana. LA Knight attempts to hit a Blunt Force Trauma on IShowSpeed, but he blocks it, causing "The Megastar" to crash into Logan, who falls to ringside.

Austin berates IShowSpeed for what just happened. Theory orders the YouTuber to get back to his feet. He then strikes LA Knight and goes for the pin. Austin tells IShowSpeed to attack "The Megastar," but just as he’s about to do so, LA Knight shoves Theory, sending him crashing into the YouTuber. LA Knight finishes Austin with a Blunt Force Trauma. 1..2..3.

Winners: The Usos and LA Knight

Furious, Logan knocks out IShowSpeed with a right hand. "You had one job! My Mania! Austin’s Mania! And you ruined it!" shouts "The Maverick" before throwing IShowSpeed out of the ring. Paul clears off the English announce table, quickly placing IShowSpeed on top of it. Logan returns to the ring, ready to climb one of the turnbuckles, but The Usos intervene. Jey and Jimmy knock him off the top before hitting a 1D. Meanwhile, LA Knight helps IShowSpeed down from the table.

LA Knight brings IShowSpeed back into the ring, where the Samoans are waiting. However, they have no intention of attacking him—instead, they encourage him to get revenge on Logan. "The Megastar" drags Paul to ringside and places him on the announce table. Meanwhile, IShowSpeed climbs to the top rope. The YouTuber leaps with a frog splash onto Logan, destroying the announce table on impact! LA Knight, Jey, and Jimmy bring IShowSpeed back into the ring. The four celebrate with the fans to close the opening segment of the night.

Fatu launches himself at Drew with a suicide dive before the Scotsman can even enter the ring. Seeing this, the referee calls for the bell. Jacob continues to strike McIntyre, sending him into one of the ring posts. Jacob then shoves him into the barricade, causing Drew to land on the other side. Afterward, he pulls several tables and chairs from under the ring. Fatu kicks Drew before grabbing a toolbox, dumping its contents onto the apron

McIntyre recovers and snatches the toolbox, wasting no time in using it as a weapon. He then smashes the Samoan’s head and chest against the metal frame under the apron. Jacob picks up the toolbox, ready to strike, but Drew surprises him with a Claymore! 1..2..NO. Furious, McIntyre grabs the referee, intimidating him for not counting fast enough.
