Although Cody Rhodes managed to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42, he did not come out of the match unscathed. After a brutal war against Randy Orton, the champion ended up with a bloody face and his left eye visibly swollen, to the point where he could barely open it.
The situation worsened after Orton closed the night with a Punt Kick on Rhodes. During the post-show of WrestleMania 42, Joe Tessitore reported that the champion was being attended to by medical personnel due to an eye injury, and the image quickly went viral.
Peter Rosenberg also pointed out that Rhodes could enter concussion protocol for the next three days as a precautionary measure. For now, WWE has not provided any further update on his condition, beyond confirming that he was under medical supervision.
The visual impact was evident in the material shared by the company itself, where Rhodes could be seen with a bruised face and a completely swollen eye. The scene made it clear that the victory was as costly as it was important for his reign.
The injury adds uncertainty about Rhodes' immediate availability for WWE's upcoming commitments. Although the champion is still standing, his condition after WrestleMania 42 will be closely monitored in the coming days.
