A new report from Fightful indicates that within WWE there was already an expectation that Brock Lesnar would retire at SummerSlam 2026. The information comes just after his defeat against Oba Femi on the second night of WrestleMania 42, a match in which Femi dominated him in less than six minutes and sealed the victory with a powerbomb.
After losing, Lesnar sat in the ring, took off his gloves and boots and left them there, a gesture that in combat sports is often interpreted as a sign of retirement. He then shared a very emotional hug with Paul Heyman before leaving.
That detail fueled even more speculation about his future, but the new report adds an additional layer: the internal feeling was that his last big match could be reserved for SummerSlam 2026. The idea is not officially confirmed, but it does show that within the company, that scenario was already being considered.
Lesnar had been presented in recent months as one of the big pieces of the calendar, especially for the edition of SummerSlam that will be held in Minneapolis, his home state. However, after what happened at WrestleMania 42, his exit from the ring now seems much closer to a definitive closure than just a pause.
For now, there is no public confirmation of retirement, but the gesture after the defeat and the context of the reports make it clear that the debate is already on the table. If WWE ends up shifting its plans to August, SummerSlam could become the final stage of one of the most dominant careers in recent history.
