The use of AI in everyday life has ceased to be a science fiction topic to become a reality in a few years. However, the use of this type of tools in the world of entertainment and arts (film, music, comics, etc) has sparked a great debate, with many fearing the decline of human creativity and, with it, the destruction of millions of jobs.
Professional wrestling is not immune to this issue. A few months ago, WWE was at the center of controversy when it was revealed that the company had signed an agreement with the Writer AI platform to integrate artificial intelligence into its creative process. Yesterday, TKO's President and Chief Operating Officer, Mark Shapiro, confirmed the use of AI by WWE and UFC during an open meeting accessed by POST Wrestling.
"Nick Khan and Triple H are using artificial intelligence for the stories in WWE", Shapiro said. "What is working? Which superstars are connecting with the audience? In which regions of the country are they having the most impact? That obviously helps us with our content, our editorial line, our creativity, our planning, our tours and, of course, to maximize revenue and deliver our product to the fans who demand it the most."
Shapiro described the adoption of AI by the company as a "significant priority", ensuring that this can help employees be more efficient and productive. On the other hand, Andrew Schleimer, CFO of TKO, noted that only tests and pilot projects have been carried out with AI, so they are still in an early stage of adoption.
For now, it seems that WWE is only using AI as a tool to understand fans' interests in their product. However, fans continue to fear that one day scripts will be directly written by an Artificial Intelligence program. Something that the company could experiment with in the not-so-distant future.
