Last week WWE carried out a new wave of layoffs, with more than twenty talents being informed that their time in the company had come to an end. Among those affected was Kairi Sane, one of the most beloved wrestlers backstage, whose dismissal surprised fans.

Earlier in the week, Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer, hinted that "The Pirate Princess" had not been fired as such, but that it was the wrestler herself who had requested her departure to return to Japan. "Well, about Kairi. I think the reason they released her was that she had hinted that she wanted to go back to Japan," wrote the journalist.

Last night, Sane addressed this issue with a tweet in which she made it clear that she did not leave WWE of her own accord. "What I can say is that there has been a lot of speculation, but I really love this job, my colleagues, and my fans. I have never walked away and have given my all in everything I do. I hope you are all well," wrote the Japanese wrestler.

Kairi's departure has forced WWE's creative team to modify the storyline she was involved in with Asuka and IYO SKY. Both women had a confrontation in the ring in the last episode of Monday Night Raw, a moment that some fans chose to chant "We want Kairi".

In fact, there is even a social media campaign, #WeWantKairi, calling for the wrestler's return. If it continues and makes enough noise, it is likely that the company will consider bringing Sane back as they did last year with R-Truth.
