TNA Wrestling has been at the center of controversy after the company prohibited its talents from facing wrestlers from All Elite Wrestling in the independent scene. This veto led to the cancellation of several matches that were already scheduled, including an anticipated Nic Nemeth vs. MJF.
The reactions were immediate, with talents from Tony Khan's company directly criticizing Carlos Silva for a decision that affected their own roster. This afternoon, the president of TNA addressed this issue, taking full responsibility for the controversial decision, and even insinuated that it was necessary to defend the company from external aggressions.
"It was very tough. All these business decisions are difficult. I don't like being called an 'idiot' on social media more than anyone. But it's okay, you have to accept the good with the bad and you have to make tough decisions. Sometimes, my job is to make difficult decisions. For the fans, for all of you, for Mike and for our locker room, we are going to make decisions that are good for TNA. We have to protect TNA," Silva said on Busted Open Radio.
"You know, Kevin Plank and Under Armour used to say: 'we have to protect this house'. It's a real motto. We've had other people go against us, interfere in our nights, make decisions, try to block us in stadiums and venues," he continued. "That's real and it's out there, and it's okay because everyone has to make decisions for their business. But we're not going to just sit back without making decisions that are good for our business. Unfortunately, sometimes those decisions are tough. We are very thoughtful about it and try to do our best when we have to make them. In the case of Nic and Leon and some of the matches that had to be canceled, we tried to do it right, make calls, and take care of the business as best as we could."
"It was my decision and I take full responsibility. Look, we have a great team and we discuss these things together, but sometimes it's me who has to make that decision and then move forward. You go to work the next day, you keep working hard, and you get the job done," he concluded.
