Cody Rhodes has revealed that his dream match is against CM Punk, an idea that has been circulating among WWE fans for some time. After retaining the title at WrestleMania 42, Rhodes once again crossed paths with Punk in a segment on RAW on April 20, where a championship match was hinted at for the future.
In his conversation with ESPN, Rhodes explained that a showdown with Punk would be a "dream match" of epic proportions, precisely because many people believe it could happen, but also because its actual realization is not simple. He acknowledged that, in today's wrestling, things are more collaborative and therefore he doesn't know if Punk would want to do it, or even if he himself would desire it at this moment.
Nevertheless, he made it clear that it would be something huge for the business and "very good for wrestling". This assessment fits with the recent context, as Punk lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42 while Cody remained firmly established as the undisputed champion.
The story between them had already been heating up before WrestleMania, with several on-screen confrontations and provocations that led many fans to believe that the company was preparing for that clash in the medium term. At the moment, there is no confirmation that WWE will go through with it, but the door remains open and Cody himself seems to view it as one of the most special matches he could have.
If the company ultimately decides to bet on that duel, it would have one of those encounters that sell based on history, name, and context without needing much more. For now, Cody has made it clear: if there's one match he wants to have, it's against CM Punk.
