More than twenty talents have left WWE in the last week. Most of them were released, while others decided not to renew with the company after it offered them a new contract with a salary reduction. This would have been the case for Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. However, there are those who have accepted a lower salary to continue with the company, as reported by Mike Johnson from PWInsider.
"A 'strongly pushed' WWE talent was allegedly asked to accept a 50% salary reduction, and supposedly did so," wrote Johnson. "I'm not going to name the talent because I still don't have a way to confirm that this was the case, but the timing of that statement and what happened the next day (the departures of Kofi and Woods) was very, very interesting, to say the least. As always, until it is fully confirmed, take it for what it is, but the timing, especially after the end of WrestleMania season, is notable."
Sean Ross Sapp, from Fightful, who has also investigated the issue, was able to confirm Johnson's report, noting that several talents have been asked to take a pay cut. "Several people were asked to accept salary cuts", wrote Sapp.
At the moment, the names of the talents that WWE wants to reduce their salary are unknown. What seems evident is that the company wants to cut costs in one of the fundamental pillars of any professional wrestling promotion: its roster. A difficult measure to understand considering the millions in revenue that the company claims to have generated with WrestleMania 42.
