WWE confirmed during Raw that two Backlash matches will be part of the first hour of the show on ESPN 2 this Saturday: Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker and Trick Williams vs. Sami Zayn for the United States Championship. This first segment of the event will air on cable starting at 6:00 p.m. ET, while the rest will continue on the ESPN platform.

The strategy repeats the model used last month with WrestleMania 42, when WWE brought the first hour of the event to ESPN 2 to expand the audience. In that case, the bet paid off well in numbers, with 1.6 million viewers on the first night and 1.8 million on the second.

The story between Rollins and Breakker continued to heat up on Raw, with an initial attack by Breakker and a subsequent response by Rollins before another Spear that reignited the tension. Meanwhile, Williams granted Zayn a rematch after all the madness of the "Gingerbread Man," a plot that will continue this Friday with a televised funeral before Saturday's match.

WWE Backlash 2026 Card

  • Heavyweight World Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jacob Fatu
  • United States Championship: Trick Williams (c) vs. Sami Zayn
  • IYO SKY vs. Asuka
  • Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker
  • The Miz and Kit Wilson vs. Danhausen and a partner to be announced
  • John Cena promises a "historic" announcement

With two strong matches already set in the open slot on ESPN 2, WWE once again uses Backlash as a showcase to maximize reach on cable. The rest of the card focuses on Reigns, Fatu, Cena, and IYO SKY vs. Asuka, so the event comes with considerable weight distributed from the first minute.
