WWE would be internally discussing AEW's future on television as a possible issue starting in 2027, when the company's current agreement ends. According to Dave Meltzer, several voices within WWE are commenting on the uncertainty surrounding AEW while the corporate situation of Paramount/Skydance is being resolved.
The key point is that no one knows yet who will make decisions regarding AEW's programming once the merger is completed, nor when that process will be fully defined. Nevertheless, Meltzer points out that there are already people within WWE who assume that AEW could be left out of Paramount/Skydance's future plans.
Internally, as per the report, there is a belief that AEW may struggle to secure another major rights deal. There are even high-level individuals in WWE speaking as if it will not achieve a new major negotiation, although Meltzer recalls that this same type of discourse circulated during the previous rights round and in the end, AEW secured a significant increase.
There are also reasons to believe that the scenario remains open. AEW continues to deliver solid viewership to TBS, performs well in key demos, generates revenue from PPV, and is also much cheaper than UFC from a television rights perspective.
Therefore, the actual situation remains uncertain. Among the possibilities being considered is even the idea that Paramount/Skydance may move AEW's PPVs to a future streaming platform, similar to what happened with UFC.
