Mayu Iwatani vacated the Women's GHC Championship at the NOAH Magic Monday event held this morning at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan. The MARIGOLD wrestler made the decision due to a fracture in her big toe, an injury she has been dealing with since mid-April. Despite everything, she promised to come back for the title once she is fully recovered.
"I really wanted to compete today and I did everything possible to make it to WRESTLE MAGIC on time, but I have a fracture in my big toe, so I'm really sorry," Iwatani said. "I will vacate the GHC belt. It's a very bitter feeling. I will definitely come back for this belt when I return! For now, even if it's just for a little while, we'll have to say goodbye."
Iwatani won the championship by defeating Takumi Iroha at the MARIGOLD: First Dream event last January. Since then, she defended it three times both in MARIGOLD and NOAH Pro-Wrestling. With this decision, her reign ends at 135 days, the shortest in the brief history of this championship.
Currently, Iwatani holds the MARIGOLD Superfly Championship, with a reign that is just a few days away from reaching one year. Her last match with the promotion was on April 11, although she recently participated in the tenth anniversary of MARVELOUS. It is unknown when she will be able to return to competition at 100%.
