During the last year, wrestling fans have seen Natalya, "The Queen of Harts", evolve into a character less focused on glamour and more on hard work. With intense training sequences, a more raw image, and the adoption of a new nickname, she is now officially known as Nattie, "The Lowkey Legend".
The inspiration for this character, as revealed by Nattie, came while writing her memoirs, titled "The Last Hart Beating". "This version came after writing my book," Nattie declared on the Battleground podcast. "After writing my book, I realized that, even though I had an incredible career in WWE, a large part of it was dedicated to that. I had to pave my way and be what everyone wanted me to be. I couldn't survive with the Nattie character. I couldn't survive with that character under Vince McMahon's direction because everything revolved around glamour and shine. So, the Natalya character worked wonders with Vince McMahon because she wore extravagant outfits, hot pink, sequins, and rhinestones, because Vince was very glamorous and his wrestling style was very exaggerated."
While Nattie adapted to the ostentatious atmosphere of WWE for several years, a change in direction and reflection prompted her to project a different image of herself, one less flashy and ostentatious, more simple and natural. According to Nattie, she had always imagined her WWE character similar to her beginnings at The Dungeon gym: an aggressive wrestler, dressed in a tight black outfit, without makeup, and with her hair tied back.
"I didn't think that character could survive in the past, but now I feel like it can, because it's a different era in the company," Natalya stated. Leading the current creative department of WWE is the Chief Content Officer, Paul "Triple H" Levesque. However, at times, WWE's parent company, TKO, has intervened to make their own creative decisions.
