Curtis Axel, whose real name is Joseph Hennig, was arrested in Anoka County, Minnesota, on May 17, after an incident at a McDonald's drive-thru. He faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, refusing to submit to a chemical test, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Additionally, reports indicate that he was also charged with obstructing the legal process, possession of an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, and disorderly conduct. Axel was released from jail on May 19.
According to the cited police report, officers responded to a McDonald's in St. Francis just before 9 p.m. due to a minor property damage crash at the drive-thru, where a vehicle had backed up and struck another.
Police stated that Hennig smelled strongly of alcohol, had red and watery eyes, and slurred his speech. They also noted that there was an open bottle of vodka inside the car.
Officers said they had to physically remove him from the vehicle after he refused to cooperate, and that he also insulted the police, restaurant employees, and the driver of the other vehicle involved. The more serious charges, related to DWI and DUI, are classified as gross misdemeanors, a serious category but not rising to the level of a felony.
Hennig, 46, is the son of the late Curt Hennig and was a WWE Intercontinental Champion and Tag Team Champion.
