The Butcher and The Blade are no longer part of AEW. According to Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful, the company decided not to renew their contract, so both are now free agents.
The team had been in AEW since 2019, when they debuted on Dynamite on November 27 of that year. During the early years of the company, they became one of the most recognizable pairs in the division for their tough and aggressive style.
Their activity decreased over time, especially after The Blade was sidelined by a spinal injury. They had not wrestled together on television since January 2024 due to this health issue.
The Blade underwent spinal fusion surgery in September 2024 and returned to the ring on December 13, 2025. While he was out, The Butcher continued to work in singles matches, and his last match in AEW was in February 2025, when he fell to Gabe Kidd on an episode of Collision.
Their departure marks another change in an AEW roster that continues to move and redefine itself. Now both are free to negotiate with any promotion or embark on a new stage outside the company.
