Rivalries are one of the foundations on which professional wrestling is based. However, these rivalries are not limited to just the television programming of the company itself. Today we see it in the fierce war between the most fervent fans of WWE and All Elite Wrestling, who defend their favorite company tooth and nail to harshly criticize the competition.
This tribalism has been fueled by some talents from both companies and the industry in general, but also harshly criticized by many others. This is the case of Chavo Guerrero, who made his position clear on the matter during a recent interview with Gabby Laspisa on Gabby AF.
"I don't understand it, I don't understand why people do that. I understand that there are people who like WWE more, AEW more, or whatever. But wrestling is wrestling. I don't like it when fans criticize someone just because they don't like the company they work for. If it's a damn good match, I don't care if it took place in TNA, New Japan, AAA, or an independent event. If it's a good match, it's a damn good match," he said.
"There are people like John Cena, who has always been a WWE guy. If someone likes other organizations, they don't like John Cena. And I think: why? Because he never wrestled in AEW, TNA, or wherever? If he puts on a good match, he puts on a good match," he continued.
"There's a reason why people love Rey Mysterio so much: because he has been in other places. He comes from different companies. That's why he has so many followers, people adore him. Probably not just for his matches, but also for having wrestled in different places. But guys like MJF... MJF is truly an AEW guy. So don't criticize him just because you're a WWE fan. He's damn good. He's great," he concluded.
