Nowadays it is not uncommon to see intergender matches in the independent circuit and other professional wrestling companies. However, it is much more complicated to see something like this in top-tier companies such as WWE and All Elite Wrestling, where mixed matches are common, in which men and women compete against their own gender, with some spots involving both sexes.

Intergender matches have many detractors within the business, but also strong defenders, many of whom have competed against a woman at some point. Will Ospreay, one of the biggest stars of this generation, knows what it's like to face an opponent of the opposite sex. Furthermore, he would like to do it again, this time against his favorite female wrestler. He explained this in a recent interview for Sactown Sports when asked about dream matches against Japanese talents.

"AZM. One of the girls from STARDOM. She's amazing. She's my favorite wrestler. All I want is to wrestle AZM. I don't know if we can make it happen because... well, we are from different genders, but I think we could bend the rules a bit to make an AZM vs. Ospreay. It would be great," he said.

"In New Japan there really isn't anyone else... Well, actually there is one person I would have loved to wrestle: Goto Hirooki. Sorry, Hirooki Goto. My mistake. I don't know why I said his name backwards," declared the British wrestler.

Ospreay faced Bea Priestley in an intergender match at an event held in London in 2020. Since then, he has not faced any female wrestler one-on-one. The British wrestler is scheduled to compete for the AEW World Championship at All In: London.
