Sheamus would be entering the final stretch of his time in WWE after nearly two decades with the company. The information that began circulating on Sunday gained even more strength the following day, as more details about his contract, the moment when his departure could become official, and AEW's possible interest in signing him started to emerge. It was also confirmed that Sheamus' profile on WWE.com has been moved to the Alumni section.

According to a report from Wrestling Observer, the Irishman was not immediately released or fired, but rather turned down a contract extension that WWE had offered him. This means that when his current agreement ends, he could leave without a 90-day clause and be free to decide his next professional step.

It was also indicated that WWE recently tried to restructure his contract while he was injured, but Sheamus rejected that proposal. Additionally, it is believed that the actual expiration date of his contract may not be as far off as initially thought, despite reports that he had signed a five-year deal in 2024.

The potential departure has already begun to stir conversations within the industry. Fightful later pointed out that Claudio Castagnoli, a close friend and former colleague of Sheamus, would be among those advocating for his arrival in AEW if he becomes available.

Throughout his nearly two decades in WWE, Sheamus became one of the company's most significant names. The Irishman joined the company in 2009 and quickly rose to the top, capturing the WWE Championship just a few months after his debut on the main roster by defeating John Cena at WWE Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2009. Over the course of his career, he has won multiple world championships, as well as tag team titles and the United States Championship, establishing himself as one of the most respected wrestlers of his generation.

Beyond his individual accomplishments, Sheamus made a significant impact through rivalries with some of WWE's biggest stars and his ability to reinvent himself over the years. His time alongside Cesaro as part of The Bar, as well as his subsequent return to a more aggressive and physical style, were some of the highlights of a career marked by intensity and longevity.
