Before arriving at WWE, Penta developed a very important stage in Lucha Underground, where he built a more aggressive and cinematic image that marked a good part of his current style. However, the wrestler made it clear that he has no intention of recovering that version of his character within the Stamford company.
In an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Penta explained that he appreciates everything he experienced in Lucha Underground, but his focus today is different. According to him, his career, his responsibility to the fans, and his personal growth have led him to a different point, so he considers that this is a new Penta, not the same as a few years ago.
"I feel that, with my experience, I am different because different things have happened in my life since I arrived at WWE, but at the same time, I remain focused, I continue to work hard every day, training daily and pushing my mind and body to the limit, because I am aware of my responsibility: now I am Penta, not the same Penta from two years ago," he explained. "This Penta is very different. And this Penta needs different things because I am aware of my responsibility to the fans, to children around the world, and to everyone. That's why now I prefer to stay focused on my career and my character."
"I know that I represent my culture, I represent my country, but at the same time, the most important thing is that I represent wrestling worldwide."
"Every step of my career has been important. So, Lucha Underground was a turning point in my career... I love everything that happened there because, in my opinion, Lucha Underground was my high school in this sport. So now I want to show the world who the real Penta is, who the Penta of now is. And Lucha Underground was amazing. A lot of important matches, crazy matches. I love Lucha Underground. That's why now I apply everything I learned there in my work."
The wrestler also pointed out that he represents his culture, his country, and, above all, wrestling worldwide. For him, every stage of his career has been important, but he sees Lucha Underground as a kind of formative stage, comparable to a "high school" within the business.
Penta added that he prefers to show the audience who he is now, relying on everything he learned in that stage without trying to repeat it. Since his debut in WWE in January 2025, the former champion has quickly stood out and remains focused on consolidating a more mature and complete version of his character.
