WWE will celebrate a new edition of SummerSlam next weekend. For the second consecutive year, the event will be divided into two nights, each with its own lineup and main event. At the moment, the company has not announced the distribution of the confirmed matches for the show, as there are still several announcements to be made, according to a recent report from WrestleVotes and Fightful Select.
"The structure of the WWE SummerSlam event, which will take place over two nights on August 1st and 2nd, is still being finalized. It is expected that between two and three more matches will be announced," the outlet wrote. "At one point, one of the planned ideas was for The Vision to defend the WWE Tag Team Championships, but WrestleVotes has learned that this option has not yet been definitively approved within the company."
"Additionally, an ESPN source informed WrestleVotes that the final SummerSlam lineup will feature between 12 and 13 matches spread across the two nights of the event. At the time of this report, ESPN expects one of the featured matches in the first hour of the event to be the defense of the WWE Intercontinental Championship by Penta against Chad Gable," the report concluded.
So far, the company has announced a total of nine matches for the event, five of which are title matches. If the information provided by the ESPN source is confirmed, WWE would still need to announce between three and four more matches. It is unknown if any of them will take place on the Countdown Show, as was the case in the previous edition of Saturday Night's Main Event.
