WWE has added a new title match to the SummerSlam card after what happened on SmackDown. Trick Williams will defend the United States Championship against Baron Corbin, in a match that was set up after an attack by Corbin during Friday's show.
The sequence began as Williams was leaving the ring after the main event, at which point Corbin attacked him from the ringside area. After taking him down and continuing the assault inside the ring, Corbin left, but Williams recovered and publicly challenged him for SummerSlam, a challenge that Corbin verbally accepted.
Corbin's return to WWE, just a few weeks ago, had already made an impact with previous attacks on Williams and Carmelo Hayes. Now, that return gains a new level of importance as it leads directly to a title opportunity on one of WWE's biggest weekends of the calendar.
The addition of this match continues to expand a card that was already loaded with title defenses, rivalry matches, and a key eliminator for the number one contender to the WWE Championship. With Corbin back in a central position, SummerSlam adds another point of interest to follow the course of the United States division.
