El Grande Americano has seen his presence and stardom increase after his victory earlier this year over Original El Grande Americano/Chad Gable in a mask vs. mask match nominated for best fight of the year in Lucha Libre AAA. Now, he could be in line for another big opportunity: it is rumored that he could be the opponent of WWE's World Heavyweight Champion, Roman Reigns, in the upcoming Raw in Mexico City, as reported by Bryan Alvarez on Wednesday's Wrestling Observer Live.

The show is scheduled for Monday, September 14th at Arena CDMX, as part of a tour that includes house shows in Guadalajara and Monterrey; Mexico City will also host SmackDown on September 11th and the second night of AAA Triplemanía 34, also in the Mexican capital.

Americano is expected to challenge AAA's Megachampionship Champion, Dominik Mysterio, on the second night of Triplemanía 34. If that happens, it would be the first time they face each other under any character. On Wednesday, it was announced that WWE will hold a tournament to determine the challenger for Reigns' title in Mexico City, although the list of participants and the total number of wrestlers included have not been announced yet.

Reigns, who has held the World Heavyweight Championship since April, retained the title against Seth Rollins in the main event of the second night of SummerSlam last weekend. His next appearance in WWE is scheduled for the August 17th episode of Raw in Buffalo, New York.
