Randy Orton against Cody Rhodes is already confirmed for WWE Sunday Night's Main Event. SmackDown's general manager, Nick Aldis, announced on Saturday on social media that the match is official for the show on September 6th at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
Aldis commented in the video: "I am pleased to announce that I have fulfilled the promise I made to Cody last night on SmackDown when I told him that I would do everything possible to make it happen. I am here today to tell you that I have made it possible. On Sunday, September 6th, at Sunday Night's Main Event, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, Cody Rhodes will have his chance for revenge when he faces off one-on-one with Randy Orton".
The confrontation arises after Orton attacked Rhodes just before his scheduled match against Sami Zayn in the final moments of the last episode of SmackDown on Friday from the TD Garden in Boston. The attack made it clear that the rivalry between them is serious, and WWE has decided to make it the first confirmed match of the September event.
For now, this is the only match officially announced for Sunday Night's Main Event on September 6, 2026, but it is expected that WWE will be adding more matches in the coming weeks leading up to a show that aims to recapture the spirit of the company's major special events.
