Giulia’s run in WWE has been the subject of debate among fans in recent months. Many believe that “The Beautiful Madness” is not being treated as she deserves in the company’s television programming. Now, a new move by the company has raised even more questions about the situation.
Last Tuesday, WWE filed a new application to trademark the name “Giulia.” The application, submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), covers the following category:
“Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer, provided live and through broadcast media, including television and radio, as well as via the Internet or commercial online services; providing news and information about wrestling through a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment through an online community portal; providing a website devoted to information about sports entertainment; fan club services, namely, organizing wrestling-related sporting events for members of wrestling fan clubs; organizing social entertainment events for recreational purposes for members of wrestling fan clubs; providing online newsletters in the field of sports entertainment; online periodicals, namely, blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.”
This is not the first time WWE has filed an application to trademark the name “Giulia.” The company already did so in September 2024, coinciding with the wrestler’s arrival in the company. It is worth remembering that “The Beautiful Madness” has retained the name she used before becoming a WWE Superstar, something that is not usually the norm within the company.
If the trademark is ultimately registered, WWE would acquire the rights to the name, which could prevent the wrestler from using it again following a hypothetical departure from the company. However, some outlets, such as Wrestling Observer, have pointed out that Giulia has prior rights to use the name, which could work in her favor in this situation.
Giulia’s most recent televised WWE match saw her face Lash Legend on the episode of SmackDown before SummerSlam. The match, which lasted barely two minutes, ended with Legend picking up the victory and also earning her spot in the Ladder Match at the biggest event of the summer. That defeat sparked a wave of criticism on social media directed at the company, with fans viewing it as a humiliation of one of the most important Japanese wrestlers of her generation.
Giulia’s most recent match was against Michin on WWE Main Event, which aired last night on WWE’s official YouTube channel. The match once again ended in defeat for the Italian-Japanese wrestler. Tonight, Giulia will face Blake Monroe in what will be the British wrestler’s debut match on the main roster.
