Johnny Gargano's biography on X has once again raised doubts among fans about his future in WWE. The wrestler's profile continues to define him solely as a "professional wrestler" and "resident of Cleveland," without including any reference to WWE, a detail that some followers have interpreted as a possible sign of departure. However, this reading does not align with Gargano's known contractual situation, as his profile has remained virtually unchanged since 2021, long before his current tenure with the company.
Gargano removed mentions of WWE and NXT from his account in October 2021, several months before his initial contract with the company expired. He later returned to WWE on August 22, 2022, making a surprise appearance on Raw from Toronto that ended with a superkick to Austin Theory. Since his return, he has worked in both NXT and SmackDown for nearly four years, but he never updated his profile description to identify WWE as his employer.
Speculation has resurfaced at a time when Gargano's future seemed uncertain due to the departure of his longtime #DIY partner, Tommaso Ciampa. Ciampa left WWE when his contract expired in January and signed with AEW shortly after. Fightful Select later reported that Ciampa kept the exact date of his departure private, to the extent that Gargano himself was not precisely aware of when it would occur. However, this change does not imply that Gargano will follow the same path: the same outlet reported in March that he remains "firmly under contract" with WWE, with no subsequent developments contradicting that information.
For over half a year, Gargano has been involved in a storyline vastly different from a potential departure. Since January, when Axiom recovered a mask that Gargano had stolen, the wrestler has been portrayed as a subdued, depressed individual practically indifferent to his surroundings. In several SmackDown segments, he has been shown lying face down on production crates while Candice LeRae, Sami Zayn, or CM Punk carried out other storylines, with WWE yet to clarify the direction of his character.
Therefore, the absence of WWE in Gargano's biography does not seem to be related to either his contract or the storyline he is currently involved in on television. The text has remained the same through two different contracts, a return to the company, and brand changes, so there is no concrete indication that he will modify it now or that it represents a clue about his future.
