This week will mark the third anniversary of one of the most media-covered episodes in recent history of professional wrestling. We are talking about the fight that CM Punk and Jack Perry starred in backstage at AEW All In London 2023, which resulted in the firing of "The Best in the World". It all started when Perry used real car glass during his match at that event and then sent a message to CM Punk live.
Perry's performance was motivated by a previous argument with CM Punk, who apparently had forbidden him from using real glass in an AEW Collision show (where "The Best in the World" had decision-making power). That fight had many witnesses, including Will Ospreay, who even thought it was a promo. This is how the British wrestler explained the backstage atmosphere of the company since that year.
"I can't comment too much on it because I wasn't there (in 2022). I was present when the Punk and Jack Perry incident happened. I was mentally going over the match and thinking, 'I have to do this and that right'. Suddenly, I heard a commotion and thought they were doing a promo. I stepped aside and saw Punk pass by me, and I thought, 'Oh, no. I know exactly what this means'. It was curious because it's one of those situations where, obviously, you read things on the Internet, but when you see it happening in front of you, you think: 'Oh, what a downer. Every time I've come here, the experience has been great'," Ospreay said on The Ariel Helwani Show.
CM Punk's departure from AEW led "The Best in the World" to return to WWE after nearly a decade of absence. After making amends with many of the people he didn't part ways with on good terms, CM Punk began a new chapter in his career that has led him to fulfill one of his biggest dreams: headlining WrestleMania.
On the other hand, "The Best in the World" has not been involved in any backstage issues (at least, nothing has been reported), although he has had some run-ins with fans, with the most recent one taking place at his hotel in Las Vegas after WrestleMania 42.
