Adam Copeland knows firsthand what it means to leave WWE and start over in a completely different environment. After spending most of his career in the company, the wrestler made the leap to AEW in 2023 to seek new matches and experiences that were not available to him in his previous stage. Now, the member of Rated-R Superstar has offered direct advice to any talent considering a similar path: stop constantly doubting themselves and trust in the abilities that have brought them to that point.
During an interview with Rob Wolkenbrod of Forbes, Copeland talked about the lessons he learned while adapting to AEW and answered the question of what he would recommend to wrestlers considering leaving WWE to work for Tony Khan's company. Instead of focusing on the differences between both promotions, Copeland encouraged talents not to overanalyze every detail and to maintain the essence that made them standout professionals.
“I would say don't overthink it. Do your thing. That's what I've always trusted in. I've been doing this for a long time and I know what I'm doing. At this point, I'm not going to constantly question myself. If something doesn't work, it means it didn't work. But at least it was worth trying,” he explained. For Copeland, changing companies doesn't require a complete reinvention or modifying every aspect of one's identity, but facing the challenge with the confidence gained over years of experience.
The wrestler also stated that he prefers taking risks rather than standing on the sidelines commenting on others' decisions. “I'd rather be the person who dares to do things than the one talking about others who dare. Above all, do what got you here and figure out the rest as you go, because it's clear that there are different elements in the audience,” he pointed out. Copeland used his experience competing in Mexico as an example, where the audience's reaction reminded him that, even if a promotion has a different audience, many fans are well aware of his career.
Copeland took that risk in 2023 and is now preparing to compete alongside Christian Cage at Wembley Stadium. As his next performance approaches, it remains to be seen if other WWE names will follow in his footsteps. For now, the veteran has already given them the formula he considers most useful: show up, do what led them to success, and find the way as they move forward.
