Last Wednesday, Willow Nightingale was brutally attacked backstage by Mercedes Moné, her rival in AEW All In London. What seemed like a segment aimed at escalating the feud between both women, had a second purpose: justifying a real injury to the World Champion of All Elite Wrestling.
As we have learned in recent days, Willow is dealing with a hand injury. Tony Khan confirmed the news in a recent interview with Bryan Álvarez of F4WOnline, where he also assured that the London match will not be canceled.
"It's true. Willow's hand is injured. It was a last-minute change. Sometimes, when you go to record wrestling programs and shows, you have some ideas and a prepared scheme. You get there and something like this happens, that Willow's hand breaks on the same day you're recording Dynamite and Collision, and that represents a significant change. The team did a great job given the circumstances yesterday. I had plans for Willow that I had to change due to the injury. The truth is that Willow is injured and will fight despite the injury," explained the president of AEW.
"Expect to see Willow Nightingale at AEW All In. Yes, she has a hand injury, but she really wants to face Mercedes and also wants to fight in All In and defend that world championship. I know that Willow Nightingale is a fighter, and she has proven it by winning several championships in AEW and being a champion who is always willing to defend her title," he added.
Willow has also not hidden the truth about her injury. In a recent interview for POST Wrestling, the World Champion revealed that she still does not know the extent of her injury. However, her plans for Sunday will not change, although she will have to follow the recommendations of the company's medical team.
"Well, it's broken", Nightingale said about her hand. "I have to go get an x-ray later to determine the severity of the injury, because that will determine to what extent it will need to be protected on Sunday. We'll see if I can have any kind of mobility in the wrist or hands, or if I'm going to end up in a situation where I just have a stump. So we'll see. We'll see."
"But the heart is fine. It's full of love and passion and ready to fight. Mercedes (Moné), right? An angry and cruel woman, stomping on her, throwing the title at her, and hitting her with a chair. That part is truly discouraging. But I'm not surprised," she concluded.
