New details have emerged regarding the latest trademark application filed by WWE. As previously reported, the company filed a request with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on Friday, August 28th to register the term "946". According to a report from False Finish, the trademark would be related to the new alliance formed by Royce Keys and the members of OTM.
The group was officially created during the episode of WWE RAW aired the previous Monday. Keys returned to television with a renewed attitude and joined Bronco Nima and Lucien Price, OTM members. The trio made it clear from the start that they intend to make an impact by attacking The Usos, as well as assaulting Keys' former allies, Solo Sikoa and LA Knight, before standing tall as the program came to a close.
The name "946" would have a connection to Oakland, California. During the group's debut, Michael Cole referenced the trio's roots in that city, leading to the association of the number with their identity and origin.
Keys had been off WWE's television programming since early August. At that time, Jacob Fatu brutally defeated him in a RAW Street Fight and continued to attack him after the match. The assault left Keys sidelined until his surprise return and subsequent joining of OTM.
On the other hand, Nima's alliance with Los Perros del Mal ended after their defeat to Penta at the AAA wrestling event held on August 23rd. His departure from the group facilitated the reunion with Lucien Price and his arrival on WWE's main roster alongside Royce Keys.
WWE has not officially confirmed what "946" means or if it will be the group's final name. However, the reference to Oakland and the trademark application suggest that the term could become the official identity of the new trio.
