The WWE Speed Championships have officially been retired. During a segment on Tuesday's episode of NXT, Zaria chose to keep the North American Women's Championship and relinquished the Women's Speed Championship. General manager Robert Stone then announced that, as a consequence of that decision, the male Speed Championship would also become inactive.
Lexis King, along with the rest of Birthright, reluctantly handed over the male title and left the ring. With that gesture, WWE officially ended the era of Speed matches and their respective championships.
Zaria had defeated Wren Sinclair during NXT Heatwave to unify both titles in a single match. The match also featured Kali Armstrong, who was added to the bout the previous Tuesday after pinning Zaria.
The Speed Championships were born in connection with the Speed program, a short-format show exclusively aired on X. The show premiered in April 2024, and Ricochet and Candice LeRae became the first champions. Speed continued airing new episodes until July of the following year, when it was removed without official explanation.
Subsequently, the titles were transferred to NXT and began to be defended regularly after tournaments. In recent months, several matches for the championships were granted without the need for contenders to previously win an elimination competition.
With the retirement of the Speed titles, NXT maintains the North American Women's Championship as a reference for the women's division, while the male champions will compete for the brand's traditional titles.
