Maya World has become one of the most prominent women in All Elite Wrestling this past year. The Texan wrestler has gone from being a talent hired for a few appearances to being one of the women with the highest exposure on the company's television programming. Tonight, she will return to her homeland for a new edition of AEW Dynamite, the first one after a historic All In London event in which she participated.
But World is still not satisfied. The wrestler already knows what it means to defend a championship in a major PPV like the one last weekend, and now she wants more. This was explained in a recent interview for The Dallas Morning News prior to tonight's show.
"I had the feeling that I was ready to wait because I know how wrestling works. I was prepared to wait my turn and wait for my opportunity. But I've already tasted what it's like to be in a main event of a pay-per-view, so now I want it now," declared World.
Maya also confessed that one of her big dreams since childhood was to play in the WNBA. However, she soon realized that her dreams had to be more realistic. That's when she turned her attention to professional wrestling, where she has finally found her place.
"I've crossed off many things from my list that I didn't think I would achieve so soon. Wrestling was my wildest dream. I wanted to get to the WNBA and, looking back now, it's like... girl. But for any girl who played basketball, that was their dream. As I grew up, I started to be more realistic," she stated.
World lost the TBS Championship to Persephone at the Buy In of AEW All In London. The result was influenced by the unexpected return of Britt Baker, who allied with the CMLL Women's Champion. It is expected that both World and Persephone, both Texans, will appear on tonight's AEW Dynamite show or on the tapings of AEW Collision that will follow.
