Malakai Black has conquered the PROGRESS Men's World Championship by defeating Cara Noir at the Odyssey Tour event held at the O2 Ritz in Manchester, England. PROGRESS confirmed the title change immediately after the match with the message: "¡AND NEW! MALAKAI BLACK HAS WON THE PROGRESS MEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!".
Black was part of the WWE roster cuts announced on April 24, which also affected The Motor City Machine Guns, Zoey Stark, and his wife Zelina Vega, among others. The Odyssey Tour marks his first appearances in PROGRESS since January 15, 2017, when he competed under the name Tommy End.
Previously, Black had contended for the PROGRESS Men's World Championship on several occasions during 2016. His match against Marty Scurll for the title at PROGRESS Chapter 29 ended in a draw, and two months later he was defeated by Scurll at Chapter 32. In Chapter 36, he participated in a three-way match for the title won by Mark Haskins, with Scurll as the defending champion. His last match in PROGRESS before this tour was a loss to Jimmy Havoc at Chapter 42 on January 15, 2017.
