There is a new number one contender for the NXT Championship. Mason Rook defeated Tony D'Angelo and Saquon Shugars in the main event of this Tuesday's episode, broadcast on The CW, as usual.
The end of the match saw Shugars going for a near fall, but Tristan Angels broke the count by pulling the referee out of the ring. Shugars, who had argued with Angels earlier in the night, eliminated him with a dive out of the ring while D'Angelo was going for the dead to rights on Rook. However, D'Angelo's back gave out, allowing Rook to capitalize by hitting a splash from the top rope to secure the victory.
The final moments of this week's show saw NXT Champion Grayson Waller come out to confront Rook, setting up the next title match.
After Waller won the title at Heatwave last month, six different wrestlers claimed their shot at the championship. One of them, Keanu Carver, proposed a six-man tag team match where the winners would face off in a triple threat the following week. Rook, D'Angelo, and Shugars emerged victorious, defeating Carver, EK Prosper, and Cruz Montana.
