During the broadcast of the most recent episode of NXT, Robert Stone announced the return of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, one of the most beloved tournaments by fans of the WWE developmental brand. The NXT General Manager confirmed that a total of 14 teams will be part of the tournament, including The Creed Brothers, who won the 2022 edition.
However, Stone preferred not to reveal more names, promising that this same week the tournament bracket would be revealed on the company's social media. Today, as a preview, the General Manager has confirmed that The Vanity Project (Ricky Smokes and Brad Baylor) and The Wagner Brothers (Son of Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno) will also compete in the tournament. Both teams are automatically classified for the second round for being the current tag team champions of NXT and AAA, respectively.
The Vanity Project regained their tag team championships after defeating Myles Borne and Tavion Heights at NXT Heatwave. Meanwhile, Son of Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno defeated War Raiders on night 2 of Triplemanía 34 to become the new AAA Tag Team Champions.
With this announcement, it is confirmed that the first round of the tournament will consist of six matches. The qualified teams will join The Vanity Project and The Wagner Brothers in the quarterfinals round. The tournament will begin next Tuesday on NXT, although it is still unknown which matches will take place on the show.
