Tonight we will once again enjoy a new live broadcast of WWE SmackDown, which this time will be live from the Hilliard Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The show will feature several attractions, including the first appearance of Sami Zayn as the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
In addition, the qualifying matches for Money in the Bank will continue with two triple threats. Jade Cargill, Alexa Bliss, and Jacy Jayne will compete for a spot in the women's Ladder Match, while Randy Orton, Rey Fenix, and Trick Williams will do so on the men's side. WWE SmackDown starts on Netflix!
We see the arrival of some of the protagonists of tonight's show: Alexa Bliss (accompanied by Tatum Paxley and Charlotte Flair), Jade Cargill (alongside B-Fab and Michin), Fatal Influence in full, Trick Williams (accompanied by Lil Yachty), Rey Fenix, and Randy Orton.
A video summary of last week's main event is shown, which ended with Sami Zayn being crowned the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
Nick Aldis welcomes us to SmackDown from the center of the ring. The General Manager points out that his job forces him to deal with people he simply doesn't like. However, he has no choice but to take a deep breath, put on a smile, and be professional. With that in mind, and since he hasn't stopped insisting, he has no choice but to introduce us to the new WWE Undisputed Champion, Sami Zayn.
The Canadian makes his entrance. The fans greet him with boos. Leaning on one of the corners, Aldis can't help but smile. "Do you find it funny, Nick? Do you find it funny that they boo me?", a annoyed Zayn asks the General Manager. However, he also knows that it hasn't been pleasant for the British to have to introduce him as the "new WWE champion". "Well, it feels very good when it comes out of my mouth", says Sami.
The Canadian addresses the Corpus Christi fans to acknowledge that this reception has surprised him. Zayn reminds them that the justice he was seeking was not just for himself, but for everyone. Even for all those who are booing him right now. "Whether you realize it or not, I fight for you. This is justice for you!", he exclaims while raising the WWE Undisputed Championship. Sami describes the belt as a symbol of hope and perseverance for millions of people around the world. "I'm sorry if you don't get it. Maybe one day you will understand. Justice has been served, and this is how it looks!", he exclaims while raising his championship once again.
Zayn addresses Nick Aldis again to point out that as much as he believes in justice, he also believes in equality. "E-Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y," he insists. That's why he hopes the General Manager treats the superstars who will be lining up at his office door to claim a title opportunity in the same way he treated him: putting all kinds of obstacles in their way to make it very difficult for them to get their desired opportunity.
Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae interrupt the segment!
Sami welcomes Gargano with open arms. Johnny approaches the champion and they embrace. Zayn wants to thank both Gargano and LeRae for their help last week, ensuring that tonight he wouldn't have the championship in his hands if it weren't for them. Johnny interrupts to inform him that he has come out to request the title opportunity that was promised to him. Surprised, Zayn reminds him that they never made a deal about it. Gargano simply said he wanted to be first in line. Nothing more. Johnny insists that the Canadian made him a promise. Sami reiterates that he did no such thing. But he did assure him that he would take care of him. "Then take care of me! You're here! I'm here! You're the champion! I'm first in line! So, how about a Sami Zayn vs. Johnny Wrestling for the WWE Championship tonight in Corpus Christi?", Johnny asks. The fans go wild. Aldis interrupts the conversation. The General Manager is unaware of what issues they have between them, and he doesn't want to know. However, he makes it clear to Gargano that Zayn does not have the authority to schedule matches on SmackDown. That is the task of the General Manager. Sami agrees with Nick. He continues to remind Gargano that he recently had a title opportunity. Furthermore, if we talk about being "first in line," that spot is reserved for the former champion CM Punk, who is not present in the building tonight.
Kevin Owens interrupts the segment!
KO addresses Aldis. "Nick, if we're talking about people who deserve title matches, I think you're looking at one of them", says Kevin as he points to himself. Candice interrupts him, making it clear that she will not allow him to do what he is planning. Owens turns to Gargano, and he knocks him out with a Stunner! Johnny ends up at ringside. LeRae quickly runs to her husband to attend to him. Kevin addresses Nick to reiterate his request. However, Aldis also denies it. Owens then lists all the occasions when Zayn has interrupted title matches, including the one he had in Toronto, depriving him of the opportunity to be crowned in front of his hometown crowd. "And not to mention he's an arrogant ass", he adds.
Nick agrees with Kevin, which enrages Sami. He approaches the General Manager to grab his jacket. Zayn knows what he's thinking, and hopes he doesn't give in to Owens' request. Nick orders the champion to let him go before reiterating that no one, except him, can schedule matches on the blue brand. However, Zayn has made his job easier after what he just did. That said, he advises Sami to put on his gear because tonight he will defend the title against Owens. The fans go wild. "One more thing, champ. The last reign was how many... 9 days? Let's see if we can beat it with 7", says Nick before leaving the ring.
Aldis heads backstage. Sami runs after him to stop him. The Canadian tries to convince the General Manager to cancel the match, at which point Randy Orton makes his entrance. "The Viper" approaches Zayn. Once in that position, he crouches down to rub the championship (a clear gesture that he expects to receive it very clean soon). Randy continues his path until he crosses paths with Owens. Both men silently observe each other before going in opposite directions.
Triple Threat Qualifying Match for Money in the Bank
Rey Fenix vs. Trick Williams (with Lil Yachty) vs. Randy Orton
Randy knocks out Rey with a right hook. With the Mexican temporarily out of action, Orton struggles with Williams. Trick takes down Randy with a shoulder tackle. At that moment, Fenix surprises Trick with a dropkick. A furious Fenix charges at Orton, unleashing a flurry of attacks. Randy escapes the clutches of the masked man before charging at him. Rey dodges his opponent, who ends up crashing into one of the posts. Rey now focuses his attention on Trick, applying a moonsault to him.
Williams stops the masked man's offense with a pop-up facebuster before slapping him with the back of his hand. Trick throws Rey out of the ring. The Mexican ends up falling next to Orton, who quickly catches him to drop him on the commentator's table. Williams goes to the spot, only to receive the same treatment as Fenix. Now it's Lil Yachty who approaches the area to confront "The Viper". Result?: The rapper is also thrown onto the table.
Orton delivers an uppercut to Rey before bringing him back into the ring. Once there, he continues to punish him. Orton unleashes a flurry of punches on the masked man's head in one of the corners. Rey breaks free to pay him back in kind. Fenix finishes him off with a superkick. 1..2..NO. Trick interrupts the count. The two champions continue the fight. Williams applies an uranage on Rey. 1..2..NO. Trick throws Fenix out of the ring, at which point Randy attacks the former from behind.
Williams manages to corner "The Viper" in one of the corners, where he kicks him to the rhythm of "Whoop that Trick". Randy quickly recovers. Orton kicks all four limbs of the United States Champion before taking him to the top of one of the corners. Rey tries to intervene, but a punch from Orton makes him fall to ringside. Fenix returns to execute a sunset flip powerbomb on Randy, who in turn performs a superplex on Williams. Rey finishes off Orton with a frog splash. 1...2...NO.
Rey kicks Randy and Trick repeatedly, who remain on their knees on the canvas. Orton pushes Fenix against the ropes, only for the masked man to return and hit him with a discus roundhouse kick. The action doesn't stop. Randy surprises Rey and Trick with scoop powerslams each. Orton prepares to execute a Modified DDT on Trick when Rey surprises the former with a Tightrope Penalty Kick.
Rey seeks height in one of the corners, ready to finish off "The Viper", but Williams pushes him to make him fall to ringside. After that, he knocks down Randy with a spinning kick. 1..2..NO. Fenix returns to surprise Trick with a converted poisonrana into a roll-up. 1...2...NO. Fenix knocks out Williams with a superkick. Rey seeks height to jump on Trick, but Orton intercepts him with an RKO! Williams reacts immediately to surprise Randy with a Trick Shot. After that, he covers a knocked-out Fenix. 1..2..3.

Candice LeRae talks with a sore Johnny Gargano when Sami Zayn appears on the scene. The Canadian assures Gargano that he deserves a title opportunity, and promises that he will do everything in his power to make it happen. However, he won't be able to do anything if he loses the championship tonight. Zayn admits that he can't go through this again. He can't lose the championship just a few days after winning it. He wouldn't be able to bear it. Sami asks Gargano if he thinks he will receive a title opportunity once he no longer has it. "Do you understand what I mean?", he asks. "Yes, I understand," Johnny replies. Sami indicates to Gargano and Candice that they must take care of each other. That said, he asks them to have a conversation later. Candice and Johnny leave to end this segment.
Tama Tonga (accompanied by Talla Tonga and Haku) sends a direct message to Shinsuke Nakamura. Tama points directly at his tag team championship, stating that he won it with his family. "Shinsuke, I've never needed you. But I think you need me. That's why, when you rejected me, you brought Kyoki", says Tama. He doesn't think it was the right decision. "You should have left him in Japan, because what happens to him from now on will be your fault", he says.
Bakusai (Kyoki and Shinsuke Nakamura) respond to MFT in Japanese. "MFT. It seems you're confused. Let me help you: You are not the hunters. You are the prey", says Nakamura.
We move to one of the women's locker rooms, which is dimly lit. Charlotte Flair approaches Alexa Bliss to check how she feels before her match tonight. Tatum Paxley brings them a special candle that... Flair blows out without letting Tatum finish her sentence. "The Queen" points out that Alexa doesn't need candles, but concentration. Bliss thanks her two companions for their support, but she needs to prepare for her match by herself. Paxley believes this is the perfect opportunity to bond. This way, they could be one step closer to snatching the Women's Tag Team Championships from Fatal Influence. Alexa decides to leave, leaving her companions behind. Paxley brings two candles to Flair. One represents "serenity". The other... Charlotte blows out with a puff. "That one was bad luck," says Tatum. "The Queen" rushes to grab the lighter on the table. " And you tell me now?!", she exclaims as she tries to light it again. And so we come to the end of this fun segment.
Tag Team Match
MFT (Talla Tonga and Tama Tonga) (with Haku) vs. Bakusai (Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki)
Kyoki and Tama start the fight. Kyoki ignores Tama to attack Talla, whom he throws out of the ring. Tama quickly goes after Kyoki, but he surprises him with a dropkick. Tama ends up at ringside with his partner. Kyoki stands on the apron to jump on both with a double dropkick. Talla crushes Kyoki against the audience barrier to take control for his team. Back in the ring, Tama immobilizes Kyoki so that Talla can apply a painful chop. Kyoki blocks a suplex from Talla to tag in Nakamura.
"The King of Strong Style" unleashes a quick offensive on Talla. Tama distracts Shinsuke, allowing Talla to surprise the Japanese with a big boot. Talla crushes Shinsuke with a corner splash before executing a samoan drop. 1...2...NO. Tama receives the tag to perform a sliding clothesline on Nakamura. MFT continue to take turns punishing Shinsuke. He surprises Tama with a spinning kick to tag in Kyoki, who enters with everything.
Kyoki surprises Tama with a hurricanrana to throw him out of the ring. Kyoki executes a dropkick on Talla before taking him down with a DDT. Kyoki seeks height to jump on the Tongans at ringside. Nakamura and Kyoki bring Talla back into the ring. Kyoki performs a dropkick on Talla before combining with Shinsuke. He applies an inverted suplex on his partner so that he lands on Talla with a splash. Nakamura covers the Tongan. 1..2..NO.
Shinsuke seeks height in one of the corners to execute a diving knee strike on Talla. 1..2..NO. Nakamura prepares to finish off Talla with the Kinshasa, but Tama returns to thwart his plans. Shinsuke immobilizes Tama on the ropes to execute his characteristic sliding release german suplex. Shinsuke ends up at ringside, where Haku hits him with his cane. The referee rings the bell.
Winners by disqualification: Bakusai
Haku places the handle of the staff under Shinsuke's throat, sending him crashing into the metal steps. The tip of the staff strikes the metal, causing the handle to slam into the Japanese wrestler's throat. Kyoki tries to dive onto Haku, but Talla stops him in mid-air. Talla hits a chokeslam on Kyoki onto the apron. He then takes him inside the ring, where he hits him with their combined finisher (big boot + chop block) with Tama. MFT pose in the center of the ring to bring this segment to an end.
Cathy Kelley interviews Kevin Owens backstage. The Canadian recalls that this is the same venue where he had his first match on WWE's main roster. On that occasion, he defeated John Cena. Kevin believes the stars have aligned, because the stadium where he beat "The Greatest of All Time" in his first match on WWE's main roster will see him defeat Sami Zayn tonight to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. Finn Bálor appears on the scene. The Irishman finds the expression Owens used ("the stars have aligned") rather curious, considering that he earned his opportunity after causing Sami to win the title last week. Very convenient. But it doesn't matter, because he will also get his opportunity, although he will do it the right way. And if that means winning the Money in the Bank briefcase and cashing it in on whoever leaves the stadium as champion tonight, so be it. Bálor wishes Kevin good luck tonight and walks away. "Thanks," Owens says. And with that, the segment comes to an end.
Nick Aldis speaks with Chelsea Green and Tiffany Stratton backstage. Aldis congratulates Chelsea on her victory last week. "I know we've been through a lot, but you've proven that you deserve to be champion," says the General Manager. "Nicholas, I never thought I'd hear those words, but I never could have done it without my girl, right here," Green replies. Danhausen interrupts the conversation. Danhausen has Gunther on the other end of the phone. Apparently, he is not happy with the General Manager, and it has something to do with Money in the Bank. Also, someone named Mickie has called. Aldis asks Danhausen why he is using his phone and orders him to give it back. They both return to the General Manager's office.
Green and Stratton continue on their way. Tiffany confesses to Chelsea that she spoke with Nick and that he has booked her in one of the Money in the Bank qualifying matches. Stratton hopes Chelsea doesn't mind. Green assures her that she doesn't. In fact, she loves the idea, as this creates a scenario in which they could both be top champions. Tiffany and Chelsea run into Nikki Bella. She warns Green not to mention her name again. That said, she hopes she saw her victory over Paige last week (although she doubts it, since the Canadian was too busy running away from Nia Jax). "I'm coming for that championship. And unlike Tiffany, I don't need qualifying matches to get opportunities, because I'm a legend, an icon. I'm Nikki Bella, and I'm coming for that title. Got it?", Nikki says before walking away.
Michael Cole interviews Cody Rhodes backstage. Cole asks the former world champion about the doubts that plagued him at the end of his match with Randy Orton at Sunday Night's Main Event and ultimately cost him the loss. Cody believes he took pity on "The Viper," but he didn't come here to make excuses. Cole takes pride in calling Rhodes "QB1" and having someone like him in WWE. However, it seems Cody is no longer leading any team, as most of his teammates, the same ones who stood by his side at WrestleMania XL, have ended up betraying him. "Maybe I should have seen it coming," Rhodes says, especially considering that he has grown up in this business. Cody acknowledges that the WWE Championship is tempting to everyone who gets close to it, admitting that perhaps he was naive to believe that wouldn't happen when he was champion. Despite everything, he disagrees with Cole, as he believes "QB1" is not finished. Rhodes remembers that there are other teams to lead in WWE.
Cole points out that Cody will be back in the ring with Randy Orton. What will he do when he once again has his old friend at his mercy? Rhodes is aware that there is a lot of talk about the possibility of him taking a different path from the one he has followed so far. A dark path. And it is something he doesn't understand, because he has always stayed true to himself since arriving in WWE. That allowed him to win two consecutive Royal Rumbles; defeat Brock Lesnar; defeat a champion who had been undefeated for years, Roman Reigns, to win the company's top championship; face John Cena at SummerSlam, where he picked up the torch from "The Greatest of All Time"; and finally defeat Randy Orton at WrestleMania and walk out of the event under his own power. And, returning to Cole's question... "That situation will come up again. And when it does, I won't make the same decision I made at Sunday Night's Main Event," Cody says to bring the interview to an end.
Cathy Kelley interviews Jade Cargill, B-Fab and Michin in the Gorilla Position. B-Fab jokingly mentions Tatum Paxley's comment about winning the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships. Michin recalls that they took out Paxley, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair at Sunday Night's Main Event. Cargill promises that her partners will be the ones to win those championships. As for her, she won't allow Bliss to stand in her way of winning the Money in the Bank briefcase. With that, "The Storm" heads to the ring for her qualifying match.
Money in the Bank Qualifying Triple Threat Match
Jacy Jayne vs. Jade Cargill vs. Alexa Bliss
Jacy ducks a right hand from Alexa, grabs her by the hair and takes her down to the mat. Jayne turns around and finds herself face-to-face with Jade. She immediately decides to leave the ring. The fans boo her. Jacy climbs onto the commentary table to taunt the crowd. Alexa heads toward her position to send her crashing onto the table. Bliss takes the United States Champion back inside the ring. Jade approaches her, allowing Alexa to try to catch her off guard with a roll-up -unsuccessfully-. Jayne, meanwhile, gets back to safety at ringside.
Jacy grabs Alexa by the legs to pull her out of the ring. "Stay there!" she yells at Bliss before getting back inside the ring. Cargill takes Jayne down with a powerslam. Jacy responds with a hurricanrana. Jayne dodges a charge from Cargill, sending her crashing to ringside. Jade quickly grabs the United States Champion by the legs to pull her out of the ring. Alexa joins the fight. Bliss sends Cargill off the apron while stomping on Jayne.
Jade grabs Alexa by the legs to pull her out of the ring. She then returns to face Jacy, whom she catches off guard with a Black Hole Slam. "The Storm" unleashes a barrage of kicks on Jayne in one of the corners. Jade sends Jacy crashing into one of the corners before doing push-ups in front of her. Furious, Jayne tries to fight back, but "The Storm" stops her with a well-placed elbow.
Alexa dives onto Jade. She catches her in mid-air and responds with a Fallaway Slam. Jacy catches Bliss with a backstabber. Jayne unleashes a flurry of punches on Cargill before crushing her with a senton. Jacy goes after Alexa again, kicking her in one of the corners. Jayne traps Bliss in a crossface. Alexa tries to escape, only for Jayne to shove her into one of the corners. Jacy crushes her with a corner elbow.
Jayne takes Bliss to the top of the corner. Cargill returns to hit a powerbomb on Jacy, who in turn hits a superplex on Alexa. Jade covers Jacy. 1..2..NO. Cargill now covers Bliss. 1..2..NO. Jade crushes her opponents in opposite corners. Jacy dodges one of the charges, causing "The Storm" to crash into the post. Alexa takes control. Bliss sends Jacy out of the ring before diving onto her with a corner cannonball. Jade catches Bliss from behind and hits her with a knee to the face. Jacy now catches Cargill off guard and sends her crashing into the steel steps. Jacy returns inside the ring to finish Alexa off with a running knee strike. 1..2..NO.
Bliss dodges a charge from Jayne, who crashes into one of the corners. Alexa looks for height for her next attack, but Jacy escapes to ringside. Bliss dives onto both of her opponents with a diving crossbody. Bliss takes Jayne back inside the ring to finish her off with a Sister Abigail. 1..2..NO. Cargill pulls the referee out of the ring to interrupt the count. Furious, Alexa unleashes a barrage of attacks on Cargill. Bliss dodges a pump kick from Jade and catches her. Alexa sets up for another Sister Abigail, but "The Storm" reverses it into a Jaded. Cargill covers Bliss, only for Jacy to catch the former off guard with a running knee strike. Jayne covers an unconscious Bliss. 1..2..3.

Jayne celebrates the victory on the entrance ramp alongside Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid.
Cathy Kelley interviews Giulia backstage. Kelley asks "The Beautiful Madness" about her qualifying match next week. However, she is soon interrupted by The Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax and Lash Legend). Nia mocks Giulia for being overly confident simply because she kicked Blake Monroe in her fake teeth. So she should think twice before facing Legend. She promises to take out every woman who gets in her way, including Giulia, in order to win the Money in the Bank briefcase and bring it where it belongs: with The Irresistible Forces. "And we'll look great doing it," she says while snapping her fingers in front of the Italian-Japanese wrestler. "Let's see what you look like after I've knocked your teeth out too," Giulia tells Legend before walking away.
Trick Williams and Lil Yachty walk backstage. The rapper praises his partner, who is one step closer to becoming "Tricky Two Titles." However, he remains concerned about Baron Corbin. Trick assures him that he will deal with that "bald guy" in due time. But first, they need to focus on Money in the Bank. Williams and Lil Yachty continue on their way until they run into Sami Zayn. Trick doesn't miss the opportunity to mock the Canadian, bringing up the old nickname he gave him: "Gingerbread Man." Sami reminds him that he is in the presence of the Undisputed WWE Champion, so he demands that Trick show him the proper respect. Trick points out that his reign could end tonight, and could even be shorter than the previous one. Zayn assures him that won't happen. He will leave the venue tonight with the title still around his waist. Williams hopes that's the case, because once he becomes Mr. Money in the Bank, he will take the championship from him...again. Trick and Lil Yachty walk away, leaving an enraged Sami behind.
Damian Priest delivers a video promo explaining why he attacked R-Truth last week. The Puerto Rican believes he took too long to do it, because he spent the last six months watching his partner give away title opportunities. Damian admits that he lost sight of his goal, which is none other than winning singles titles. Priest tried to explain it to R-Truth, but he insisted on going after a tag team championship again. And what happened?: They lost again. "So I had to explain it to you the only way I know how. And you know what? I don't think you still understand it. But you will. You want to call me a villain? You want to call me a traitor, Truth? Fine. But make sure you call me 'El Malo'," Damian says to bring his promo to an end.
Undisputed WWE Championship Match
Sami Zayn (c) vs. Kevin Owens
Owens attacks Sami while he poses with the championship, forcing the referee to call for the bell. Kevin unleashes a barrage of kicks on Zayn, who seeks refuge at ringside. Owens goes after him and takes him down with a clothesline. Kevin crushes the champion with a senton. Owens hits several chops on Sami (dedicating one of them to a fan of his opponent). Kevin takes Zayn back inside the ring. Owens drops the champion across the top rope to damage his ribs.
Sami escapes to ringside again, where he receives more attacks from his opponent. Owens takes Sami back inside the ring. Zayn catches Kevin off guard with a DDT. Sami uses the ropes to punish Owens. Kevin recovers and regains control. Owens grabs Sami by the hair to prevent him from escaping the ring again. Zayn takes advantage of the situation to catch KO off guard with a Rope Guillotine. Sami mounts his opponent and unleashes a barrage of punches. Zayn continues to punish Kevin. Owens catches the champion off guard with a superkick. Both men are left lying on the mat.
Owens crushes Zayn with two consecutive sentons before hitting him with a corner cannonball. After that, he finishes him off with an Attitude Adjustment (complete with the You Can't See Me gesture). Sami blocks a pop up powerbomb and a Stunner to respond with a Blue Thunder Bomb. 1..2..NO. "This is awesome!" the fans chant. Both men trade attacks. Zayn catches Owens with a big boot. 1..2..NO. Sami unleashes a barrage of punches to the challenger's face. Zayn takes him to the top of one of the corners. Both men trade punches from the second rope. Kevin knocks him down before diving with a Swanton Bomb. 1..2..NO.
Johnny Gargano storms onto the scene to distract the referee!
Meanwhile, Candice LeRae appears on the opposite side of the ring to catch Owens off guard with a tornado DDT. Disoriented, Kevin takes refuge in one of the corners. Sami finishes off his opponent with a Helluva Kick. 1..2..NO. Zayn can't believe it. Sami sets up for another one of his finishers, but this time Kevin interrupts him with a pop-up powerbomb. Owens finishes him off with a Stunner. 1..2..NO. Gargano places Sami's foot on the bottom rope to break up the count. Furious, Kevin goes after Johnny to attack him.
Owens throws Gargano into the barricade. KO clears off the commentary table, ready to hit a powerbomb, when Sami appears. Kevin catches the champion and drops him through the commentary table, which ends up being destroyed. Owens takes Sami back inside the ring. The referee checks on Zayn, allowing Johnny to grab the championship and enter the ring. Gargano tries to attack Owens, but he stops him with a Stunner.
CM Punk suddenly appears to grab the championship and use it as a weapon against Owens from his position on the apron. Zayn then catches "The Best in the World" off guard with a big boot, sending him crashing to ringside. Sami crawls toward Kevin to cover him. 1..2.. The referee stops the count, claiming that Owens kicked out. After arguing with the referee over his decision, Zayn takes his opponent to one of the corners to finish him off with a Helluva Kick. 1..2..3.

"The Best in the World" poses at the top of the entrance ramp as the show comes to an end.
