WWE has filed a new trademark application related to SmackDown. The company registered the term "SmackDown" on September 18th for use on championship belts. The description included in the application corresponds to the category of manufactured trophies mainly made of common metal to be used as awards, specifically championship belts.
WWE currently sells replicas of its championships through its official store. Among the titles associated with SmackDown are the WWE Undisputed Championship, the male and female United States Championships, and the Tag Team Championships.
As is known, there is currently no specific SmackDown championship, although there were some in the period between 2016 and 2023/2024. In that year, WWE carried out a brand split that led to the introduction of two new titles exclusive to the blue brand: the SmackDown Tag Team and Women's Championships, which in turn led to their counterparts on Raw being renamed.
At the moment, it is unknown what use WWE intends to give to this new trademark. The application could be related to the commercialization of championship replicas or future products, although no new title has been confirmed.
