Jon Moxley burst onto the scene in the United States as Dean Ambrose in WWE in 2012, but by then he had already been wrestling for almost a decade. Now, that pre-global fame stage is going to have its own documentary. Stonecutter Media has released the trailer for I Fought Jon Moxley, a film focused on his time in Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) and other independent organizations.
According to a statement from the production company, the documentary will premiere on October 13th «in selected theaters and on major cable and digital platforms». The 80-minute film is directed by Brendan Amoruso and written by Maven T. Bentley, and promises to immerse the viewer in the hardcore and ultraviolent world where Moxley forged his reputation before making it to WWE and later, AEW.
The trailer includes footage of some of his most violent and defining matches from that era, featuring appearances by key names from the independent circuit such as DJ Hyde, Nick Gage, Rich Swann, Mickie Knuckles, Big F'n Joe, Larry Legend, Eran Ashe, and Gary Walter. It also shows confrontations against future rivals in AEW like Eddie Kingston and Brodie Lee, directly connecting that indie stage with what would later become his career on the big stage of American pro wrestling.
The film is produced by Steve Karel, founder and president of Stonecutter Media and current owner of CZW. Karel has been involved in professional wrestling since the early 90s, when he was an investor in the original Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). With this documentary, he aims to shine a light on Moxley's formative years, those that many fans didn't witness firsthand but that ultimately shaped the character who would go on to dominate in WWE and AEW.
