The Young Bucks' contracts have become one of the most talked-about topics surrounding AEW, and so far, nobody knows for sure what Matt and Nick Jackson plan to do in the medium term. Karl Anderson, who claims to speak with them daily, has given the clearest hint to date: their current agreements with the promotion expire next year.
During an appearance on Talk N Shop, Anderson revisited the Bullet Club era and how many of the wrestlers who defined that generation are starting to consider what comes next. When the conversation turned to the Jacksons, he was straightforward: "The Young Bucks' contract ends next year. I talk to them every day."
Despite this closeness, Anderson admitted that he has no idea how much longer the Bucks want to keep wrestling. "You know what? How much longer are the Bucks going to keep going, man? I don't know," he said. For him, this kind of uncertainty is something that fans do not appreciate until it's too late: "These are real things. When these guys are done and gone, you're going to say, 'Oh, wait a minute'."
These statements come about a month after Dave Meltzer opened the door to speculation about a possible retirement, mentioning that he had heard that the Bucks' current contracts could be their last. Meltzer later clarified that he was not saying that Matt or Nick had recently confirmed their retirement to him, but he was referring to Matt Jackson's past comments about stepping away at some point and the fact that both brothers are financially secure.
Negotiating a contract is one thing; deciding when to hang up the boots is a whole different story. Right now, even the people closest to the Young Bucks seem unsure of how this story will end, and that is precisely what makes the next year so interesting to follow.
