Jake Hager suffered one of the worst injuries of his career in his most recent appearance on Power Slap, Dana White's popular promotion consisting of open-hand striking competitions. Hager faced Johnny Magna, who ultimately secured the victory by TKO. Hager, on the other hand, began to bleed from his left eye, prompting his immediate transfer to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.
At that moment, White acknowledged that he had never seen a worse injury on this program, nor in the UFC, a promotion he also oversees. This afternoon, following the latest edition of Dana White's Contender Series, the promoter provided an update on Hager's condition.
"Yes, that same night he had to undergo emergency surgery and now we are going to send him to a specialist in Miami. There are many unfortunate situations that occur in combat sports. What needs to be done is to ensure that all relevant medical tests are carried out before the fight, have the right professionals during the match, and take care of these guys after the fight. For me, that is the top priority. Beyond offering great fights, the only thing that really matters to me is that all these guys are healthy and safe," White stated.
For now, we still do not know the type of injury Hager is dealing with, although it is evident that it is a very delicate matter. The severity of the injury led White himself to order that the replay of the blow received by the wrestler not be aired. Similarly, the Power Slap promotion has removed all clips of the Magna/Hager match from their social media platforms.
