Just after winning the Intercontinental Championship, Chad Gable revealed his intention to create a great legacy with his first individual reign in WWE. To do so, he promised to defend the gold against any talent that desired an opportunity, regardless of the brand they belonged to. Since then, Gable has put the title on the line on Monday Night Raw against talents like Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee. However, for his next defense, he will have to move to a place he knows very well: NXT.
As announced by the company, Chad will defend the championship against Saquon Shugars at the live show that the developmental brand will hold tonight in Columbia, South Carolina. Gable will also participate in the show that the brand will host tomorrow night in Greensboro, North Carolina. IYO SKY will also participate in both shows.
The presence of main roster talents has become a common occurrence in NXT's non-televised live shows outside of the state of Florida. For example, CM Punk participated in the event held in Petersburg, Virginia in mid-August.
This will be Gable's thirteenth title defense since winning the gold at SummerSlam 54 days ago. Ten of his twelve defenses have taken place at non-televised live events, so they are not officially recognized. On the other hand, this will be Shugars' first major opportunity, as he recently started his solo career as a face in NXT.
