Very reluctantly, Steven Borden starred in one of the most memorable moments of AEW All Out 2026. Sting's son joined forces with his mentor, Darby Allin, to face off against Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher in a tag team match with a title opportunity at stake. However, the match ended earlier than expected due to an unfortunate incident.
At one point in the match, Borden was supposed to stop Knight in mid-air, who was attempting to perform a Coast to Coast on Allin. Both men collided in the air, as planned, but something went wrong and Borden ended up lying on the mat unable to move. The referee quickly realized that Steven was not well, so he called the medical team, who attended to the wrestler on the mat.
After some distressing minutes, the official called off the match and Borden was taken out on a stretcher and later transported to the hospital, where he spent the night. However, he was not alone. Knight was with him, as "The Jet" revealed in a recent interview for ClutchPoints.
"As a person, I just wanted to know how he was and make sure he was okay. Obviously, you never want things like this to happen in a match you're involved in, especially if you're directly implicated. So I just wanted to check on him. I spent the night at the hospital with him and he was fine. It was just a scary fall and a tremendous scare because of the risk involved. But yeah, it wasn't an ideal situation. Still, we'll recover from this and I'm looking forward to seeing what else Steve can offer us in the future. I'm pretty sure he'll recover," Knight said.
"We talked about everything that happened and went over what occurred step by step. But, as I've said, anything you do in this business involves a risk: stepping over the ring ropes, going up or down the stairs, bouncing off the ropes, or taking any kind of hit or fall. Every time you do any of those things, you're risking your life," he continued. "So it was a completely fortuitous accident, and Steve is a true fighter, a very resilient person. I'm sure he'll come back better than ever."
"I was in the hospital room with him all night and we were talking, discussing how we could use all of this to move forward and how we could find something positive in this situation. How can we find an opportunity in the midst of a tragedy like this? In this business, it's clear that these things happen. It's a shame that it happened, but you have to adapt, learn from what happened, and grow from it," he concluded.
Currently, Borden remains away from competition. Tony Khan confirmed that the medical tests he underwent at the hospital yielded satisfactory results, so he was discharged shortly after. However, the AEW medical team has chosen to proceed with caution and has recommended that the wrestler rest before returning to the ring.
