Ric Flair arrived at All Elite Wrestling in October 2023, in one of the most media-covered signings in the still young history of the company. Tony Khan introduced "The Nature Boy" as a special gift for Sting, who was preparing to end his career as a professional wrestler. The legend signed a multi-year contract with AEW that also included the sponsorship of Wooooo! Energy, his own brand of energy drinks.
However, his on-screen appearances were quite limited and he stopped appearing on the company's television programming after Sting's farewell match at AEW Revolution 2024. This was compounded by the end of the sponsorship of his energy drink by the company, a decision that raised doubts about the relationship between Flair and Khan.
During his absence, Flair has made it very clear that he is still part of the company and that his relationship with Khan is excellent. In fact, "The Nature Boy" often showers praise on the president of AEW, whom he considers a very close human being. He reiterated this in a recent interview with NewsNation, where he also assessed the current state of his former company, WWE.
"He's a good guy; he's generous. I work for him and I don't do anything. I think he takes care of me out of respect for me. He has seen me grow. He is simply a wonderful person. It's not that the guys at WWE... I just think they are all holding onto their jobs, because you never know what might happen. They have fired a lot of people who played a key role in my career when I was there. I don't understand what criteria they follow or why they make those decisions. Of the men who made my documentary for Peacock, two have been fired," Flair declared.
"As for Tony Khan, who runs AEW and who is undoubtedly one of the most wonderful people I have ever met, he has a group of people he meets with and consults on decisions. I'm sure they do the same in WWE, but Tony does it directly," he continued. "Tony Khan could be the greatest promoter of all time; I mean in wrestling. He may not be as smart as Vince McMahon, but that's solely because Vince has accumulated many years of experience, because he was really smart and very shrewd. But Tony is a great guy, so generous that sometimes he goes overboard."
